My parents want to redo their dated bathroom. They had discussed replacing the old toilet and getting rid of the tub completely for a shower stall. I will likely be doing the remodeling work on this project. I need some recommendations on a good toilet. It must be an elongated bowl. I have heard that Toto is the way to go but I want to hear from all of GT.

btw, I searched for toilet because I knew there was a thread on it quite a while ago but you wouldn't believe how many threads have the word toilet in them.

In an related but unrelated note, I once had the toilet in my apartment overflow the tank... not the bowl, the tank! the emergency drain tube was so plugged with calcium buildup, it wouldn't bypass enough water when the valve stuck in the open position... That calcium is a pretty hard cut with a dremel.

So check those emergency drains in the tank if you have hard water. It may save you from replacing some flooring and sheetrock.

Good thread! I am toilet-shopping too! I need something that can handle a good "load test" instead of this stupid nancy I have now.

I'm in for a new one too. I'd love to know why commercial units can handle 2 rolls of toilet paper and a dead cat, but the one in my house get's clogged if you urinate in it...

Bought 2 for the church this summer.

Home Depot has one that is advertised as being able to flush a bucket of golf balls. What that has to do with any real usage I don't know but its got to be awesome. Seriously we have had no problem with the low end model from Home Depot. Spent about 100 on each.

Anything these guys make: www.totousa.com will work great.

I've been selling them for years and no one has ever complained about how they functioned.

And before you ask, yes, selling toilets is as exciting as it sounds.

Parents are thrilled with the Toto toilets they bought 6 months ago. Nobody can clog therm. My dad is fairly tall and has some issues getting up from sitting, so they went with the taller seat height - a great improvement from my point of view at 6' 5"....

Actually it does wipe you. Or more to the point hoses you off and then dries you.

Shoulda read the ad copy closer I guess. If I suddenly had Bill Gate's bank account I don't think I could bring myself to spend 5 grand on a toilet.

With reason in mind, what model would you recommend? Elongated bowl, 2 piece, max flushing power, and standard toilet styling. (I dont want some fancy looking toilet)

And what flushing mechanism would you recommend? c2 e+ d+ or g+

I have tried one similar. Let's just say that there are some positives to being able to go totally "hands free".
