Congrats. Seems dentistry is a very profitable profession. I recently met a dentist who had just closed his successful practice in Ohio. He has moved down here to Florida to open a new practice. In the meantime of getting relocated to Florida and getting his new house setup(a mansion in every sense) he gave his name to some sort of dentist temporary agency. This agency sends him all over the country to dentist offices for all different reasons. The office has too many patients, a dentist that quit, retired, died, vacation, medical leave you name it and they need a dentist immediately to handle the patient/customer load. All expenses paid and triple his previous income. The offices that he works for have to pay the exorbitant amount to the temp agency because they can not afford to loose their current book of patients/customers. He says the only drawback of course is the traveling and time away from home. He now says he will not be opening his own practice again.

I'm not rich financially, but not hurting.I don't see me retiring until my skills diminish. My youngest starts college (S.Carolina) this fall and contemplates following in my footsteps. Money isn't everything............ her decision touched me. DOC

Congrats...a good dentist is worth his weight in Amalgam. :) I've got a dentist here that EVERYONE I work with goes to. He's constantly booked solid and his office is almost like an assembly line he has so many patients who love going to him. I've had some bad dentists so I really appreciate the good ones.

Congrats! After a few years of dental neglect I have started back on the right track with a new dentist. I cannot fully describe how much better the experience has been compared to my old dentist. I no longer dread going and feel much better about taking care to have good oral hygiene. Again congrats!

Like anything else it can be or can not be. I have a dentist who is real cool and I like him but he old school, not assembly line like some places. he has lots of overhead (very pricey office to run btw) and barely makes ends meet. Drives a junky old mustang.

In S Cal there are so many providers that you can starve easily. On my BMW Forum we have about 50 dentists and many are hurting money wise.

They all complain how hard it is to make a buck in this business. I asked about making crowns, bridges etc and they loled at me, apparently it is like some big mafia comp that controls the mkt.

Now my Endodontist drives a 458 Italia so ..go do some root canals I guess.
