That is the question. I recently bought a P226 tacops model used with 5 20 round mags. My original plan was to sell my safe queen p228r to recover the unplanned expense of the p226.

Basically I gave myself a budget from the tax return for guns/fun stuff, and the p226 wasnt included. Now i'm having a hard time deciding on whether to sell the P228r. It's in excellent condition, made in Germany also. As a matter of fact it hasnt been shot or even touched in over a year, and barely has enough rounds through it to be considered broken in.

I know the p228 series isnt made anymore, and I can't even find one for sale to decide on a sale price. The only ones ive found are really used police carried ones, and non-railed.

I keep finding uses i may eventually use it for, and the fact that it accepts all my p226 magazines is a nice compatability factor. It's lighter than a p229, actually it's the same unloaded weight as the sp2022 polymer framed sig. Plus there's the cool factor in that you can't really find them anymore. But there's a lot of things left on my gun list i need to get lol. (ammo, an optic, ak mags, so on and on)

Give me some input if you have an opinion.

I'm not a Sig guru at all but reading your post makes me think you really want to keep it deep down...

Keep it. It's one of Sig's true classics.

All the new stuff that Exeter refers to as "classics," aren't.

Classic Sigs don't have light rails, beaver tails, two-tone paint jobs, diamond plate slides, and rainbow finishes.

I would not sell your older P228 to fund the Sigs made in Exeter.

lol I agree, but I went ahead and posted it in the classifieds. I don't shoot the P228 and probably won't. So the only reason to keep it is collectability. I'm not really a collector, I like my firearms to serve a purpose/function. No safe queens here

It's gone already, I tried forever to sell it on glocktalk classifieds and only got glock trade offers.

The P228R is not a collectable like the P228 is. Your P228R is assembled in Exeter with German parts, therefore, it is not German proofmarked nor does it have triple serial numbers. It is basically a P229R with a leftover P228 slide. It's full of MIM, unlike a P228. It has little collectibility to a Sig collector. I'd decide which gun you like the best and shoot it. Both of your Sigs are nice guns, but are not collectables.
