Call it elitist if you like. But when 95 percent of the male passengers were wearing suits and wingtips, I don't recall ever SMELLING any of them.

I hate flying. I could fork out the money for first class, but i travel on jobs to make money not lose it all so i embrace the suck. I know people who love the flying and airports and claim its fun. Dont get it.

If the seat reclines then you should be able to recline it. Guy behind was a dick and should have been escorted off the plane.

It's hard to pick a side in this one. They both suck.

When the person in front of me reclines, it's pretty miserable. I can't bring myself to do that to the person behind me. If I had it my way, the seats would not recline.

I'm surprised half the plane wasn't smoking back then.

They were. But the planes had excellent ventilation and it really wasn't objectionble.

I smoked and hated being near the smoking section of a plane. That was the worst place to be

I wonder if the guy would have kept punching the seat if an in shape, tough looking guy was in it.

Tobacco doesn't stink nearly as badly as armpits, crotches, bare feet, (flip flops) and halitosis.

I have a very sensitive nose and I don't recall any more smelly people on airliners than I run into in other venues. I go into HEB (a very large and successful grocery chain) or Walmart and I run into people who leave a wake of miserable, foul ammonia like stench behind them. I see/smell that in both raggedly dressed and well dressed.

Who in the hell wants travel in a suit? I was happy when the Navy said I didn't have to wear a uniform on business travel. Then I could respond to jerks w/o possibly giving a negative image of the military. Don

Can't tell what type of A/C or if it's the last row on the A/C with the wind screen. Tipically the last row doesn't lean back because of the wind screen and it also is the thinnest row because the plane tapers in at that point. Like clockwork, every overweight/tall person ends up walking to the back of the plane, hoping not to sit next to anyone , and they pick the last row (SouthWest). Happens everyday, all day.

That bald guy was a *****. She should have showed his face so everyone knows.

That guy needed a cup of fresh hot coffee...preferably poured just below the seat belt buckle.

If the seats are designed to recline, why is it a problem for them to be reclined?

Started flying as a Commercial Pilot at the tail end of the smoking era.IMHO, it sucked to be anywhere near that crap.

Example of the air quality. On every pressurized aircraft, there is what is called an "Outflow Valve" that regulates pressurization by opening or closing depending on PSI needs in cabin. Airplanes aren't totally airtight, think of the valve like a leaky drain in bathtub that will empty over time, but will fill up depending on faucet flow.

The valve for a 737 is near the lower tail area and has relatively simple door system to block air. Air is basically vented during flight except times where it closes like idle power (less bleed air) or a major air leak.

These valves are easy to see on a preflight. During the smoking era, these valves would be black with greasy tar and extending 6'-8' along the fuselage there would be a back soot/tar stain, all from smoking. I'd swear we were BBQ-ing onboard with used motor oil looking at that.

Today the valves are spotless and no streaking on the fuselage although I have never gotten up to smell for dried farts or fermented toe cheese. ;)

My personal pet peeve is tank tops, that's where the scummy factor speaks along with walking around in bare feet.

Are you a DU troll? That's their MO. I'm kidding. But there really needs to be room for disagreement without condemning in this country.

Yes it was. I flew several times while smoking was allowed on airplanes. The only thing separating the smoking area from the non-smoking was an imaginary line. It stunk to high heaven on the entire plane. I can't smell very well these days, but I can still pick out the stench of cigarette smoke.

The seats recline. All of them recline, to some degree.

If you don't want someone to recline their seat into yours pay extra and get the front row, or upgrade to a class with more space in it.

Bashing on the seat in front of you does not sound like a good way to take care of the issue.

The airline provides seats that recline. Either find an airline that doesn't have reclining seats, or just don't fly.

From the article, it sounds like the lady in the front seat tried to accommodate the guy behind her by not reclining during the meal/food. Once that portion was over, he decided to be a total jerk.

Yes, she could have avoided it by not reclining her seat, but then we can all avoid arguing with the liberals by just voting for Bernie, right?

I had a guy who reclined his seat straight back all the way without any warning once on a flight. The seat was jammed right into my knees and laptop. A quick adjustment of my knee to his seat so I could move around quickly stopped it and forced him to pull back at least half way. He didn't say a word and neither did I.

I dont mind recline but at least be thoughtful to the person behind you. Most people I have observed usually do a slow recline and only a little bit. I don't recline at all..
