    Depends on if your phone is rooted or not.
    Good idea for average users to not to turn on developer options or check the allow unknown sources box to be certain.
    For advanced users its common place and adds much more functionality and access to content outside the standard Android market or Google Play Store.

    I hear that keeping your OS up to date with the latest version of Android and any security updates is a big help with security.

    Also not installing games from Chinese App Stores.
