These days there are a lot of takeout orders being picked up, do you tip?
There is no waitstaff involved since I am driving to the restaurant to pick up the order, she says Yes, I say No...
I tip waitstaff, not kitchen staff....

Somebody put your order together and you should tip them.

And you should consider the fact that since the restaurants are closed to dining in, those people really need your tips.

    Absolutely.
I do anyway, but I am tipping more right now. These people live off of their tips. Curbside without tips is not going to get them by.

Yup. I don't get take out very often due to geographical issues, but when I do, I tip unless something is really really screwed up. Restaurant workers deal all ay with asshats and don't make much. I'd even tip more given the situation we presently have with the Chinese Virus.

MY feeling is that the TIPS ARE FOR THE WAIT STAFF.
Who are you tipping, the CHEF ... Who may be the restaurant owner ?

I am taking out from the places that I want to still be there when things calm down. I leave a few bucks tip to help the people working there out. I'm a regular at these places, so that might make a difference. I wouldn't leave a tip at the McDonald's drive thru or anywhere like that.

The wait staff that has had their hours cut and no tips coming in since the outbreak of corona virus. They are now running the take out orders.

I want them to still be in business with employees on the other side. You come off like an AppleBees bottomless appetizers and water kinda guy.. so do as you please.

Also the owner still needs money as 75% of his business just went out the door. Unless you want McDonald’s to be the only thing left in 6 months.

Normally maybe a little less on carry out than if I ate there. I did 50% tip on my carry out today. Not great time to be a waiter/ waitress.

It takes more then one person. The owner of a restaurant usually works double the hours of everyone else, plus he is the one giving the jobs.
That said, I never got tips as an owner. We did put a tip jar out for the kitchen staff and people liked it. Many would even leave notes with their tip about how good the meal was, or thanking them for doing something special that the customer asked for. The kitchen staff usually always gets screwed when it comes to tips. People don't feel like they need to tip the cook, but they are sure as hell quick to complain, if their meal isn't perfect. All of these people need help right now.

I’m tipping lots of people right now. They’re likely the ones getting hit the hardest.

Yes. Always. At least the equal to regular service. For me that means at least 20%. Maybe more if I know the servers preparing the carryout. They have to live and tips are their primary income. If you don't you are . . .

Yes, these days about 25% or 30%...
I feel for these people that are not able to work at the jobs that give them a living..

Normally you could make the argument for not but currently, if you are in a good spot financially, you might consider throwing a few bucks around
