Time for a home shotgun - suggestions

I think a basic reliable home shotgun is next on my to-get list as I have none currently. Probably 12ga but considering 20 as well after reading up on both. 12 would probably make more sense though as just a better all around choice.

Pistol grip or not? Ghost ring sights? What else should I consider?

Remington 870 is a classic but there are so many options. Just looking for some feedback, ideas, etc.

A basic Mossberg 500 with 18.5" barrel works fine for me.

You are going to get 1000 different opinions on this but personally I think that because shotguns are fairly simple and have been around so long that most reasonable options are a great choice. Personally I went with a mossberg cruiser model with the pistol grip because I got a good deal on one. Shortly after getting it and shooting it I decided that pistol grip had some advantages but decided to order an ati side folding stock to have the full lenght option but still be able to store it in smaller spaces if needed. Whatever you decide you will likely be happy with it. The one thing I would suggest is that whatever you get, a decent light on it is probably a good idea for hd. Happy Hunting

Remington 870 Express
Mossberg 500
Benelli
Winchester 1300

Will all work nicely any of those will work......

I have an 870 plane jain, gooed enough for me
I tried a pistol grip on my Mossberg once. It hurt my hand and I couldn't hit squat with it. I put the buttstock back on and I can shoot much more effectively with it.

Besides, being able to deliver a buttstroke is always a plus.

Choose one of these and you're good to go.If you're broke like me then go with the Mossberg 500. :tongueout: If not then I'd get the Benelli.
Mossberg 590 with full stock. I picked up a used one for $ 200. Much easier to shoot & handle IMO with the full stock.
I have a Mossberg Maverick 88 with an 18.5" barrel and a slightly shorter Hogue stock. Cheap and effective.
I found this Mossberg 500 used for only $150. I waited too long and it sold in just an hour after I found it on backpage.com. I am still on the hunt for an 18.5" barrel plain jane 500

I have the Mossberg 500 pistol grip/full stock combo and love it.
As already posted... a lot of 12 g. home security bats will do just fine.
I do prefer the full stock with a "butt cuff".
Not just because it sounds funny... it rules.

Pistol grip sure makes sense for ease of movement through the house, but the full stock is so much more...
"John Wayne".

And as already posted... The Maverick version seems to be great for the dollar wise home defense shotgun purchase.
Been told that Mossberg is a less than top shelf shotgun, but mine has always gone BAYAM when I depress that trigger thing.
Let's face it, if I need firepower at home, I'll pick up my Glock pistol first.
If it's a bear, high on cough syrup, I'll grab the Mossy.

Got a tac light mount for it too. TLR 1 at the ready.

A double is fun, too.

That is awesome. I would like to one day get something like that.
Mossy 590. Full stock, ghost ring sights if budget allows. Also, tube extensions aren't easy add-ons like the 870 or 1300.

Get the 8-shot model.
Mossberg 590a1. I'd stay away from the pistol grip models. With the way the safety is configured a pistol grip would be awkward to disengage from that particular grip.
Mossberg 500 TACTICAL 12 ga...
2
Mossberg 500A 18"

Im actually thinking about selling the kit to make a 500A look like the one on the bottom
FOR CHEAP - SHOOT ME SOME PM'S

Simple Pistol Grip (great for door/hall ways)
or
Tactical Assault haha ( more for looks or if your uncomfortable without a stock, as well as mounted light and laser )

My 18.5" 870 does what I ask it to.
I Agree. I have the Hogue 12'' LOP stock and forearm kit on my 870 and it is perfect. Dick's had a sale on the the 870 tacticals for $350.
I have a Wilson Combat 870 with ghost ring trijicon front sight post and speed feed stock. Also, has a surefire forend and side saddle on it that came with it. A nice set up I think.

Also, have a Benelli M1 that serves that duty as well. Although the 870 serves a lot more

mossberg 500 mariner. with blackhawk spec ops recoil reducing stock. mine is the best looking mother ****er in here.
