Thoughts on the number of classes one shoots

I wanted to get some feedback from ya'll on those that shoot 4, 5 or 6 classes at GSSF matches. I shot Anderson, what a great event, and I overheard some grousing from competitors about guys shooting 4 classes and holding up the show. I also got an opportunity to help out with the RO duties at one of the Plate stations and heard more of the same. I think that the match ran beautifully, I arrived at 8:30 and was done shooting by noon and I spent lots of time gabbing with the Sidearmor guys.

I personally shot 4 classes at Anderson but always shot 2, went to another stage and shot 2, etc etc rather than shooting 2 and getting back in line at the same stage. I felt like that was fair for everyone and that I was not causing a log jam. All the others that I saw shooting 4 were for the most part doing the same thing.

My plan was to shoot 5 categories at the next match, and I could easily see myself wanting to shoot 6 in the near future. Is this really an issue or was the sun's appearance at the first Anderson match in history causing some chaffing?

Shoot as many as you like, that's why GSSF setup the rules like they did. Grousing is sour grapes by those who want to shoot and go play somewhere else. As long as you follow GSSF guidelines, shoot 2, step back and let another competitor shoot and then shoot your next 2, you're fine. If folks want this to be a one gun match they need to tell Chris, Scott or David. Maybe if enough complain they'll change the rules. When I was in AmCiv I shot the 4 I was allowed. Up until Orlando came to GSSF the shortest trip for me was 4 hours. I wanted to shoot more than 90 to 100 rounds after that kind of trip. The rest of the matches I attend are 7.5 to 14 hours away.

I've heard people complain because some of the Sidearmor group shoot together. What does it matter what color shirt you have if someone signs up first, they shoot first, simple as that. It doesn't matter whether they're on a team, the same team or no team. If someone wants to shoot through quickly they need to get to the match early, sign up at the shortest list at each stage before they shoot and have their mags loaded, ready to play.

Don't let it bother you Mark, come, shoot and enjoy the sickness. ;f

I used to shoot 4 categories but last year I limited myself to 3. I felt myself getting tired and making more mistakes. Three seemed to be the best for me. I also carry enough loaded mags to shoot the entire match of 3 categories without having to reload. I always leave it to the RO's as to me shooting 2 then stepping back for someone else to shoot and then me returning to shoot the 3rd or letting me shoot all 3 straight in a row. Since I don't have to reload mags shooting all 3 in a row and moving on is really faster. I have no problem with shooters shooting 4,5 or 6 categories but I feel they should show up at the match with enough mags to keep the line moving. I know the RO's are very understanding and let some reload mags while shooting a stage but it would be more considerate to others if they had enough mags to complete each stage as they came to it without reloading mags while on the firing line. Its allowed and I will not complain or embarrass anyone. This is just my thoughts. Some do complain if they can't just walk right up and shoot. I am there to enjoy myself, visit with great friends and hopefully be competitive, if it takes all day, no problem. Most matches I have shot if I sign in by 9-ish I am done by 1-ish.

Remember; I am not flaming anyone just expressing my personal opinion. By the way Mark; I shot the plate stage after you started working it and felt you ran it very well. Before you started working that stage there were some bottle necks and it was not caused by folks shooting 4, 5, or 6 categories. So as Jerry said above shoot as many as you want, I am there to have fun. I am shooting 12 matches this year traveling from the Florida Panhandle to Richmond, VA, Lexington, KY and the farthest being Las Vegas so as you see I plan on enjoying myself. ;c

I think the current maximum of entries per shooter is six right?

Well, that's what the staff of GSSF think is fair, and I'm inclined to agree with them.

In my very first match the Team Sidearmor crew beat me to a stage and I was stuck behind them for awhile, but they beat me to the stage and got there sheets in first, that's just the way it goes.

I look at it this way, I'm there to shoot, and I'm gonna shoot as much as I can, within the rules.

I always shoot 3 entries. Most of the time I shoot all 3 back to back it usually goes very quickly because I have enough mags to shoot all 3 without reloading. If the RO's are limiting people to two entries at a time them our group, Pistol People organizes the sheets before we turn them in.

Wouldn't it be fair that if anyone is going to shoot multiple classes, that they are limited to shooting one class at any given station and then get to the back of the line of that station for every additional class. Anything less is unfair to those shooters who only want to shoot 1 class.

    KP,

Shooting order has always been in the order of score sheets turned in to the RO. GSSF has always recomended that if shooting more than 2 entries, let another contestant shoot between every two entries.

If a shooter turns in his paperwork at 9:00am, is it fair that his second entry be placed behind someone that did not get there until 10:30? I don't think so.

the rules clearly outline shooting order. if you dont want to be at the end of a long line of shooters, get there early. thats not "unfair", its just following the rules.

and while tjc doesnt like the win-one-gun-per-match rule (master class rule), at least everyone knows ahead of time that that is the rule.

What everyone seems to forget is the price per run is the same for the first, the third, and the sixth run. It is not like GSSF is cutting the price for the additional runs if you shoot six. To GSSF it is six shooters, so the multiple run shooter is already penalized by not being allowed to shoot in the order he signed up, but has to let others jump in front of him. The rule about shooting 2 runs and stepping back for another shooter also can cause lost time on the line by changing shooters back and forth because of putting your gear up then getting your gear back out.

I don't really have a dog in this fight because I run two categories and quit, so this is just my two cents worth and every knows what two cents are worth.

And a very rapid two entries they are Eddie. ;f What I did do a few times in the past, for my benefit was to shoot through with my iron sight guns and then go back through with my Unlimited. Grousing is the American way. IF people really want the match to go faster so they can get done and leave they could shoot and forego scoring, just paste the targets. That would get them done faster. ;Q IF you're following the rules you're OK.

NOT A FLAME If you want the match to move faster GET OFF YOUR BUT AND HELP PASTE & PAINT that way you helping and not conplaining and the time goes by faster working with your hands and not your trap. I can't stand the poeple that stand there and conplane about the match going slow and doing NOTHING to help it move along so put up or shut up IMO I only shot 2 cat, cause I'm still in the donating stage but when I start winning I enter more ;f ;f I Konw I when off the deep end but hay I'm having fun :-/ Sniper

Nope, but I think everyone spoke their true feelings and no one went too far off the deep end.------------ Well------maybe sniper should either cut back on the coffee or switch to decaf. I am totally cool, calm and collective this year. As Vicki said at Anderson on a couple occassions: I was in rare form. I did have a great time and only began to loose my cool once near the end of shooting when I was a little tired and my back was hurting. Bet by next match I will be able to stay in rare form for the rest of the season. ;f ;c ;+ ~2 ~2 ~2 ^c

I shot three tho should have kept it to two. I enjoy standing behind Team Sidearmor or the Florida Bunch tho sometimes I cannot tell which is which. :) It gives me more time to give them some trash talk. And you know you would never get that from FG.

First timers, this is what it's really about. You get to see friends and talk about guns and shooting is just iceing on the cake. If it takes a little longer, well, that's a good thing.
