Has anyone here taken it? Was it useful? Would you recommend it for a beginner?

What other classes would you suggest?

    Definitely recommended.

GamerGirl, you didn't mention where you were located, but your local gun shops can steer you to the best local instructors, and to the venues in the region that host top out of town instructors.

Local police dept. or sheriff's dept. will often have a program where their crime prevention people do a security canvass of your home and make recommendations.

Check out local martial arts training opportunities, too, and don't neglect defense-oriented competitive shooting; will have listings that should bring you to somewhere within striking distance of where you live. Match shooting is not training per se, but it builds skill and confidence in useful things like accurate hits delivered quickly starting with the gun concealed, shooting effectively while moving, and taking cover efficiently.

Kathy Jackson's website,, will have loads of useful advice for you, too. A cruise through the Tactics and Training section here at GlockTalk will bring up several of the "name" schools you might want to attend as your training builds, though travel will likely be involved.

    best of luck,
