It's OK but I don't think it's on the level of band of brothers
I am saving them on my hdd to watch in succession after the season is over. I did this with band of brothers about 3 weeks ago. That was an awesome series.
I like The Pacific.
I've been a little disappointed by it. It's good and I will watch all the episodes but it's just not as good as Band of Brothers.
Maybe that's an unfair comparison.
Boring and directionless. Also the ratio of dead Japanese soldiers to dead American soldiers seems a tad one-sided.
Band of Brothers it ain't.
Problem is they're trying to squeeze 3 years of it into the same space BoB took up(which was around a year of fighting and training). They also have more main characters to focus on(instead of just Easy company) and so on. BoB was MUCH better IMHO, they are concentrating on character development, but doing so in the wrong way.
I pretty much agree with all of the above posts.
By episode 2 (Normandy) Band of Brothers was pretty much had my interest and was "hitting on all cylinders". After 4 episodes The Pacific has yet to pull me in.
The Pacific is turning out to be a disappointment. I am hoping it gets better.
This pretty much sums up my opinion of it. I also noticed how they very rarely show American soldiers getting killed, they mostly just deal with American casualties by having one of the characters mention "they got (insert a few names here)" after each engagement. There are never more than a few mentioned, its simply said and thats it, the casualties are rarely more than faceless names. This is as opposed to the Japanese casualties shown as they get mowed down by the dozen.
I think I want to see it....that's my thought. No HBO here.
Funny, I was just telling a friend of mine that doesn't have HBO about it and that I thought it's better than Band of Brothers.
I guess I'm partial to naked Australian women.
In reality that's the way it happened during Bonzai charges. The only time it was bad on the American side was when units were over run.
It's more real in some ways. I mean, BoB was fantastic and one of the best. However, this one is focusing on the down periods, the home life, and the mental battles more. Makes it more real for me. So far I've liked BoB better (but I'm a European campaign guy more, anyway) but the Pacific has been great and already has a place in my heart.
I totally agree with you. I loved Band of Brothers, but so far, The Pacific is just ok.
I'm watching it, but have no desire to purchase a DVD set the way I did BOB.
Band of Brothers was great. Compared to Band of Brothers, I find the Pacific awful boring. The characters are horribly uninteresting all the way around. I've seen every episode so far and still couldn't give a rip. They could kill off every character, bring in totally new ones, and I doubt I'd notice, that's how sucky the writing is IMO.
We watched the first 3 episodes last weekend. Not seen 4 yet. Found it hard to follow the characters and thought the darkness made it harder to follow. Don't hate it though.
BTW, what are those round machine guns?
One of the guns I saw on screen looked somewhat like a carbine but had a long stick mag and was a machine gun what would that be??
*cough* Torrent *cough*
Reising M50 I think, its a .45 SMG
