My dad has a nice 1903 .32acp, but I've been looking to pick up a Colt for a while. I'm looking at maybe getting myself a .32acp or maybe one of their little .25acp models.

What are your thoughts on them?

    Thanks!

For the size weight and price I would go with a Mustang Pocketlite .380 with hot loads.

And my .460S&W mag is better than my G20... ;)

But this is just to have a Colt...and to plink around with at the range. :)

    Thanks!

better is subjective as you can tell,

    10mm has +'s to 460 ..

    it also has -'s ..

they are good guns .. for what they are,

my dad likes his colt .25 auto ..

and i will admit the dam thing is tiny , but a sub par caliber,

rather work around a glock sub compact, or at minimum a .380

and they are not fun to plink with,

you fire 2 magazines and you are good .. for the next 5 years

I have a 1903 that was built in 1914 and love it. In an American Rifleman article about JMB from years ago it was stated that Mr Browning used to carry a 1903 while hiking in the hills around Ogden Utah IIRC. They are good solid guns that are easy to field strip and reassemble and were built to last. I think you will appreciate it for quality of build and history if you get one. Here is mine hanging out with my LWS32 and PPK 32 autos. The 1903 is good for fun at the range, you know - the times when you are not fighting zombies and killing commies for the CIA. Since I am not an operator I actually have guns for when I am not saving the world.

I have a Colt Vest Pocket made in 1917, I love it.

Very well made, mine still functions perfectly after all these years. Fun to shoot as well, like shooting a teeny tiny 1911 with no recoil.

I got an old leather ankle holster from a retired detective, every once in a while I carry it as a secondary pistol.

The vest pocket...you mean the Junior or the hammerless .25acp?

I know my dad's 1903 is SAWEET to shoot, just too big for a carry gun IMO.

Harley seemed to say that the little .25's aren't that fun to shoot... :dunno:

Gotcha. One cool thing about this gun is that since they are all pre-1960 they're C&R guns. So that means I can have it shipped right to me. :)

The only other .25acp that Colt made was the Junior AFAIK...unless you can show a pic of what you mean.

It would have to be Baby Browning size.

They don't make pocket pistols like they use too and the older ones are getting too valuable to shoot on a regular basis.

The Mustangs and all the variations are high dollar, low quality, nothing like the older 1903/1908 pistols and there is a good reason they never lasted as long either, I just told you what it is.

Frankly, you would be better served by a Glock G26 or G27 if you want a small defense pistol.

This advice comes from a man who has collected pocket pistols for years.

that might be some expensive plinking. have you checked prices and availability of 32 or 25 auto rounds lately? you might be dead set on a colt pocket auto for whatever reason, and you might actually find one for sale somewhere. but if you want a small pocket plinker, check out the NAA mini revolvers. I have a .22 mag/.22 LR and absolutely love it.
