I'm considering downloading this but wanted feedback first. Anyone use it on their PC? Anything I need to watch out for? Will it help my system or mess it up? Thanks.

Download the Slim version that doesn't include the toolbar.

Watch out for what is checked. The default settings are usually safe but checking too many additional boxes can delete things you might not want deleted.

I use it regularly. Make sure you check the options and don't inadvertently delete anything you want to keep (cookies, history, etc.). It's amazing how sometimes it can find a ton of things to get rid of.

I consider it to be a genuinely good piece of software, not some malware infested gimmick.

i agree with every one here. I run it once a month. I only have done the registry cleaner part of it once because it really messed up my system other then that Its a great piece of software.

... and do a custom install after updates to avoid the toolbar.

The only issue I have with it is that it always removes my background image (wallpaper).

Your wallpaper must be a image from a web site that you click "set as desktop back ground" or you have it stored it in a temp folder. If either is true save it to a different folder or download it to your computer and then set it as your wallpaper.

Wow you guys are quick with the responses today. Thank you for that.

I'm a little confused though as some of you said you did not use it to clean your registry and that you had problems with that. Isn't CCleaner primarily a registry cleaner and should I use it for that? I think my registry needs a good cleaning as it is but now I'm a bit wary of messing up my PC.

The responses will probably slow down around 1830 tonight ...

If you are really concerned you can always make a backup of your registry before you run the cleaner.

I've run it once a week for about two years, including the registry cleaner.
    I've never had any problems.

The registry cleaner part is perfectly safe. All it removes is useless stuff that is no longer needed,
like the trash that's left over when you delete a program.

It does NOT change anything in the registry or effect any part to the registry
that is being used. Just don't mess with the registry cleaner settings and you'll be OK.

It gets rid of a lot of garbage that just slows up your system.

    This.

I have used it dozens of times on lots of different computers and the only time it gave me a problem was on a Vista machine where it screwed up the sidebar gadgets.

You should probably backup the registry before running it for the first time, just in case.

    Otherwise a good program.

CCleaner is one of the FIRST programs I load onto a new computer or fresh install. Run it right away and back-up the registry.

You might clean the old prefetch data if you haven't installed, uninstalled or updated any programs since the last restart of the computer.

I use it all the time and have never had problems with it, the files cleaner or the registry cleaner.

Also, it does have a section where you can choose which cookies to keep and then you can let it clean up your cookies also.
