    I think most of us remember our first solo and the standard 'joke' about the Instructor pilot.

    I came in the AF before they started the 'crop duster program', where they first soloed you in a propeller type plane. Our first solo was in a T-37.

    We would go up with our instructor and shoot two touch and goes, followed by a full stop and taxi back to the approach end of the runway. Stop the plane, open the canopy, and the instructor would get out and walk over to the mobile tower at the approach end. The joke was, he had his hands over his wings as he walked.

    Then we would close the canopy, pull onto the active, and push the throttles up. I can remember thinking, 'I can still abort this thing'. Then suddenly I was airborne.

    Shot two touch and goes and a full stop. Taxied back in, got out of the plane, and the class guys grabbed me and thew me in the dunking tank full of water.

    You're just supposed to pull all the way back and keep your feet off the pedals right?

    Did this guy have ANY instruction?

    I want to push the yoke forward through my phone!

    Maybe he was shooting out the window at the gas station, and is a lefty, so shooting weak-hand. That can be pretty distracting.

    I don't think he did almost get it out of the stall. The airplane stalled and fell off on a wing. If he'd have been higher it would have went into a spin. That windsock showed a pretty sporty crosswind for an initial solo. Any CFI's are welcome to correct me.

    Not a CFI but I probably could have done a better job than this one. That was way too much crosswind and the stall was developing into an incipient spin. If he would have been another 50-100 ft higher it probably would have been his final landing.

    Too bad it was not a high performance single... turbocharged.. then you could add several zeros to the insurance adjustment..

    Must have been nerves.. instructors usually know the student is really ready to perform basic stuff.. the wind did not look like a great day to solo to me.

    He might not be good at flying, but he's damn good at crashing. If I ever have to be in a plane crash I want it to look just like that.

    Did he cut the throttle or something? Turning into the wind when he was already airborne I would not expect a stall. From what I can see in the video he was going up and down on the elevator. Anyway, I give it a 2.
