Michigan's Dept of Health & Human Services says 40% of those who have died from COVID-19 are black in a state where African-Americans are just 14% of the population. Why? Diet. Blacks are 60% more likely than whites to be diagnosed with diabetes & 40% more likely to have high BP

    Let's look at this further;
    4/2 deaths; 1230
    4/3 deaths; 1261
    4/4 deaths; 1332
    4/5 deaths; 1149
    4/6 deaths; 1323

That is very consistent, and very low all things considered. The numbers have risen very gradually and very slightly. And even dropped a bit on the 5th. That is a very good thing. By now I was thinking deaths would be measured in tens of thousands.

The number of daily new infected has also leveled off in the last 4-5 days, and isn't anywhere near what I expected to see. Although the availability of test kits might be the issue there.

"LA doctor seeing success with hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19

    Tuesday, April 7, 2020 1:03AM

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Los Angeles doctor said he is seeing significant success in prescribing the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in combination with zinc to treat patients with severe symptoms of COVID-19.

Hydroxychloroquine has been touted as a possible treatment for COVID-19 by President Trump among others, but it remains controversial as some experts believe it is unproven and may not be effective.

The drug has long been used for treatment of malaria and conditions such as lupus and arthritis but is not technically approved by the FDA for COVID-19. The agency, however, is encouraging trials and has provided limited emergency authorization for its use to treat COVID-19 patients.

Dr. Anthony Cardillo said he has seen very promising results when prescribing hydroxychloroquine in combination with zinc for the most severely-ill COVID-19 patients.

"Every patient I've prescribed it to has been very, very ill and within 8 to 12 hours, they were basically symptom-free," Cardillo told Eyewitness News. "So clinically I am seeing a resolution."

Over the last 3 days or so, reports of new confirmed cases and newly reported deaths for the US as a whole have definitely shown a leveling off which is indeed good news. Before making mathematical comparisons of new case and new death reports from one day to the next, one should keep in mind that many of the newly reported cases on any given day were not the result of testing done that day. In many cases, covid-19 tests are sent to laboratories far from the test site and it may take up to two weeks for the report to return. There is also a chain of reporting for new deaths, from hospital, to state health agency, to the sites that track new deaths so deaths that occur on a given day may not show up on these tracking sites for several days.

But the stabilization in new case and new death reports seems to have held up for several days now so hopefully it is real. Also, the doubling interval for cumulative case reports in the US has stretched out to almost 7 days from 5 days not long ago, and the doubling interval for cumulative deaths has stretched out to nearly 5 days from 3 days where it was not long ago.

These are all positive observations but not everything is as rosy. The case fatality rate for the US continues to climb and is now close to 3%. It was a little more than half that not too long ago. Also, although reports of new cases and new deaths seem to be stabilizing in the heavily populated metropolitan areas that were hit earliest and hardest, the infections and deaths continue to ramp up in the less populated states and metropolitan areas. That is certainly the case for Indiana and Indianapolis. These states and cities have not contributed nearly the sheer raw numbers of cases and deaths as a city like New York, but I expect that we will continue to see numbers of deaths and cases ramping up and peaking at different rates and times for different states and urban areas.

I apologize if this has been posted.

I signed up for .gov and CDC email alerts, and just got this... instructions for making your own masks from material around your house. Thought you all would find this interesting:

    More at the link:
"CDC on Homemade Cloth Face Coverings
CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

CDC also advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.

Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance."

I would not jump for joy too soon, but it's better than doubling, no doubt.

The percentages on male - female infection rates in the last Kansas report has female cases leading male cases, 54.9% compared to 45%.

That's quite a claim. Every single one? How many is that? From "very, very ill" to "symptom free" in less than half a day?

Interesting that he says it's the zinc that makes it work. No mention of z-pack antibiotic.

Antibiotics don't work on virus, it would only be useful if there was some sort of secondary bacterial infection.

    That's 0dd.

I read somewhere that Men seemed to be more susceptible
to the virus because of a certain receptor in their lungs. I guess this would prove that to be wrong?

Of course what we know about this virus is evolving.

There was a MedCram video, way back in this thread, where Dr. Seheult described the interaction of Hydroxychloroquine and zinc. Basically the Hydroxy allows the zinc to enter the cell and interfere with the virus's ability to self replicate. As I recall, Dr. Seheult suggested the use pre-ventilator.

As for the claims of how rapid the response would be, I don't remember this Dr. making a claim on it.

Government: you need to stay home, even from the pharmacy and grocery store if possible! Just for a little bit to slow the spread!
