Something else was going on there. Loss leader, subsidized, etc. I would say the average cost for an IV contrast chest CT to be $1500, with quite a variation based on locale.

I hope this guy didn't go to Carnival in Rio this week. He is the first case in Brazil.

    https://www.cnn.com/asia/live-news/...0-intl-hnk/h_dbcad2e86b4c4b73c99beb8468e43ad7

" Brazil's heath minister confirmed today that a 61-year-old Brazilian man who arrived in Sao Paulo after traveling to Italy is the first case of novel coronavirus in Brazil.

Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta said the man arrived in Brazil on Saturday without any symptoms and spent the weekend with his family before coming down with symptoms and going to a health clinic on Monday.

He was hospitalized and tested positive for the virus in a preliminary test and was isolated. The second test confirmed he had the virus. The man was in Italy from Feb. 9 until Friday.

Authorities are mapping who the man came in contact with. "

I work for the State of CA and we received this today from our HR department. I literally could not believe it. Wouldn’t surprise me if this person is in my office.

    Here is an excerpt:

While we understand employees may have questions about coworkers who recently traveled to China or are teleworking and/or quarantined, it is necessary that we protect the health-related information of our team members. Please do not attempt to confirm the health status of these team members or communicate about coworkers’ health, even if it is from a place of well-intended concern.

I have a stupid question for those here that are smarter than myself. A bit of background- this virus seems to like those of oriental genetic makeup (Chinese, Japanese and Korean). Given the way this bug appears to be going through Iran, is there any genetic connection between these 2 cultures?

That sounds like a lawsuit in the making in our litigious society.

That's not a stupid question at all.

The answer is kinda yes. We're all descended from the world's biggest **** hole so there are genetic links that abound all over the globe.

    Here's some light reading...

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4728368/

So here's the real question, does this virus have an affinity for Asians and Persians or do they just have ****ty governments and ****ty healthcare that allowed this disease to run amuck?

No one knows if this disease likes any certain race more than any other, but we all know the answer to the second part of the question. Dictators are always gonna dictate and ruin **** when they do. Now our **** is about to get wrecked because of a bunch of filthy ****ing Commies doing filthy and stupid Commie ****.

If a bunch of American's die from this, we need to take this as a lesson, and that lesson is, kill Commies, all of them. They're all bad and they all need to go to Commie hell, forever.

If a nation gets taken over by a dictator/commie, we need to wreck that entire **** hole of a country and establish a self-sustaining Democracy in its place. We need to make it so that evil dictators who do stupid **** as Xi did, die horrifically painful deaths so that any up and coming dictator rethinks there stupidity and says "Nope, God Bless AMERICA! Just do what they say and don't piss them off! MAGA!"

    See above.

The dreams of Cheney and Rumsfeld. It’s a great idea. But the last 50 years have shown that to be a difficult project. Probably about as doable as containing COVID.

I’d counter that we need to harden all forms of entry and become more self-sufficient. Who was asleep at the wheel when we were allowed to outsource antibiotic production? Yet we subsidize an insane quantity of corn in the name of food security.

Enough of my early morning ramblings. Will be interesting to see when the real panic sets in here. Soon surely.

What better place for the Dems to hold their Convention? Bet they could get a smokin' group rate deal.

I find your honest expression of your displeasure with dictators and Communists quite refreshing.

I have received the same style of notices for our company. I checked with our legal department and they agree, we can't disclose if anyone has been infected based on current laws.
