update, envelope arrived with cash inside, just as described, Ill be sending him his item and I have no hard feeling, sometimes people get upset. Rack this up to a lessoned learned.

THIS IS WHY YOU DONT SEND CASH TO BUY SOMETHING, I had a 40ish item for sale on the parts section, and (im not going to name names)was told that payment was on the way, well when it didnt show up I asked" what kind of payment did you send"? and of course the "I SENT CASH" well long story short, no letter has arrived or returned to sender, so I receive this PM.

    quote
"Clint, Yes before I sent it I triple checked the address was correct. That was the zip code. My wife had a money order that took a 3 week trip from WI to IL a few months ago with an ebay purchase. After thinking it was lost it showed up all of a sudden. I don't think that will happen in this case. I think someone came out ahead over this deal. Anyway, with no official recourse I'll have to use 'unconventional means' to even the score.

I dont know about you, but I read this as I'm being called a THIEF. My record stands for itself, with 100s of high dollar dealings on both Glock talk and Beretta forum, Im not going to start my career as a thief with a 40ish dollar deal.

so bottom line is DONT SEND CASH EVER, IT PUTS BOTH PARTIES IN A BAD POSITION.

LLL stuff happens,....if the buyer sent cash, it's all on him/her.

I've only ran into one deal gone wrong here. I seems to have
the best luck sending payments, cash, check or money order via Priority Mail.
Seems every time I send a money order via standard mail, it gets lost or something.

I'll add one more suggestion to the list:

SAVE YOUR USPS INSURANCE FORM INDEFINITELY - OR UNTIL YOU HEAR THE ITEM HAS ARRIVED.

I sent something to someone valued at $160. After three weeks, I assumed that it must have arrived as I'd not heard from the buyer so in cleaning up my desk, I tossed the little insurance form. Bad idea.

I received a PM from the buyer about three MONTHS later asking if I'd had a chance to ship the item yet? THREE MONTHS?!?!

I'm obviously suspicious about what is going on but have no proof. My guess, is that most people don't save their little insurance form for three months and this guy knew that.

I had no recourse so I sent him $160 - he probably has both the item and his $160 back now. I now save those forms until I hear the item has arrived, or until rednecks lose interest in nascar.

Yeah, cash is a bad idea in this instance.

Hopefully it really was a mistake, and you guys get it sorted out.

It would suck if someone stole the money, or if he lied about sending it...

    Bad deal man, sorry.

Roll the bones and take your chances.

If he sent cash, it was his mistake. And he should realize it.

I wasn't insinuating (sp?) that you stole it, I was referencing someone who handled it when it was on the way to you, if it was sent at all (I don't know why someone would send cash...)

Like you said though, sounds like a bunch of crap for a $40 deal.

40 bucks is relatively cheap for an obviously needed lesson in life.

I have tell many people when sending something of value to insured( items), when sending payments to always use money order and to send with some type of tracking. You are not at fault here, the buyer is for not covering his/her *****. It is very easy to blame the mail, but if he or she cannot proof that it was sent, then it was never mailed.

I would be careful. "Unconventional means" to me sounds like this guy is going to rip someone else off to get his money back.

Remember money orders and cashier's checks can be forged as well, and your bank will tell you weeks after you deposit it. I would only accept paypal as an online payment. As a buyer, I only pay through paypal with a credit card so that I can dispute charges if need be. I hate paypal, but they have their place.
