If I remember right, there was a prototype aircraft very similar to this...about 90 years ago. It didn't work then... But not necessarily because the idea was poor.

:faint: Can't believe MythBusters wasted so much time on that one.

That's a pretty cool design but what can it do that a model airplane can't? It is supposed to be a survelance platform because it can fly slow (30 mph). But what advantage would you have over existing aircraft in it's class?

The Marines already use something similar for aerial reconnaissance.

Well, the inventor stated it was designed for urban use, so I would imagine a police department might find it useful for scoping out a location prior to sending in a Swat team since the motors are electric it probably runs quiet. This would be much better than a helicopter which is not quiet.

Sounds like the main benefit would be duration and loiter time. Plus, as mentioned, it moves slow and quiet.

If they can get it to run upside down it could cut my lawn for me.

I agree with one of the comments on the YouTube link...What happens if you lose power? While it's not a problem for an unmanned model to fall out of the sky, a large transport would be a big problem.

    Interesting concept, though.
