I just noticed appaf.exe and iecv.exe in my process list, but never heard of them before.

Is this a virus or spyware or something? Spybot and adaware didn't come up with anything. Any suggestions?

    iecv.exe

the other one appears to have something to do with netware.

    it's a cache manager.

all browsers cache stuff on your hard drive for faster retrieval when you surf the web. for instance, the little images around the glocktalk site can be found there. that way your machine doesn't use resources to download the same stuff over and over.

this program allows you to view and manage your cache. that probably means it will allow you to control the size of the cache, what gets cached, from where, and so on. it will also let you delete stuff from the cache (when it's not in use).

if you didn't install it directly, it may have been part of some other package you installed.

I think it's tied to the appaf program. If I delete it from the start menue it comes back. They both showed up at the same time. What the heck is the appaf? And while you at it could you tell me what netware is? Thanks!

netware is an OS that novell developed.

that's all i could find about appaf on google. only one entry was returned.

the reason it keeps coming back is because a) it's installed as a service and/or b) it's listed in the run key of the registry.

so you need to disable the service and/or delete any registry entries.

anyway, i'd check add/remove programs and see if you see it there. then uninstall it.

Would installing Spy-Bot 1.3 or Ad-Aware 6.0 help him at all?

he said he ran both and neither caught anything.

spy-bot 1.2 and adaware 6.0 both updated and didn't find anything.

    I didn't see either in add/remove programs.

then remove it from the run key in the registry and/or disable the service.

    FYI:

SpyBot 1.2 is no longer supported with updates because the 1.3 version scans for something like 15K scumware apps.

The 1.2 only has defs for about 5K baddies, so it would be a 10MB+ DL to update the old engine.

Everyone using 1.2 NEEDS to rip it out and install, then update, SpyBot 1.3. AAW is still on version 6, though.

    Nicer interface, too....

    Best regards,

    FastVFR
