I love my Tundra but it's getting up there in miles. It has 91,000+ miles which I know isn't a lot for a Toyota but I'm thinking about retirement in a few years and I don't want to go into retirement with a truck with 200,000 miles on it.
I've had great luck with Chevys in the past, may favorite was my '98 Z71 1500 with the half doors in the back. Double cab? I don't' remember.
I'm eyeing a 2020 of the same configuration. Anyone own one that has owned an earlier one like I had? Do they compare, and what are the pros and cons of them. I loved that Vortec V8!
The one thing I really miss having is that G80 locking differential. Tundra is crap with their electronic diff. (fancy antilock brake foolery)!
    Thoughts?

Save a ton of money...I would be looking at a gently used one, maybe with 20-30K on the ticker....

Edited to say: You could keep what you've got and just get a new engine for it after you hit 200K, still a lot cheaper than a new truck.

    I've put 330K on a 4.3 Vortec V6.

I think I’d rather have a 91k mile Toyota then a 0 mile GM vehicle especially if I had to shell out $$$ for it.

So far I love my 2020 Z71 RST, smooth and quiet as can be. I did go with the crew cab, the extra room is just nice I think.

In my area you can’t save a ton by going used unless you go way back. I looked at a bunch of used ones and some were priced more than my new one cost after rebates.

I drove Ford trucks for a lot of years but it I were in the market for a new pickup, I would take a hard look at the Ram.

Well, when I bought this one, it had right at 40k on it. Maybe I'll wait a few years before I make a move.
That being said, I don't wanna wait until the miles are too high to get a reasonable trade in on it either.
    I'll keep brainstorming.

I'm thinking about buying a truck that was new about five years ago.

Might be different in AZ, but I see virtually no difference in price between a truck with less than 30k, and a new truck these days.

If you are going to retire in a few years now is the time to think about it. Have it paid off prior to retirement and with low miles you have something that'll hopefully last a long time, eliminating a car payment from your expenses

I had a new Cheverlot LUV, (lite utility vechicle) in 1970ish, it was an early Jaspanese import built got Cheverlot, lot of rattles, apprently a tractor motor, but it was still on the road in So. Cal last time I talked to second owner, his grandson was driving it with 500,000 miles on it.

I love the small Chev S-10'ss and GMC Sonoma, owned both. Miss those Mini Pickup.

Now That response surprises me. I take it you haven’t been in a Ram for a while? Some good engines, transmissions can be ok if not pushed. Let’s just say “if I can’t say anything good....”
I’m a FORD truck guy. Last a Dodge I owned was @90. Driven a few (as little as possible) since then. I tear down Chevrolet . But honestly they make good trucks. I’m not sold on “eco boost” yet. Drivers seem happy, those that work them constantly. A bit less.
Buddy bought a new Ram Dually 12k and it’s down for days. He hopes oil line. The dealer in two days can’t tell him the cause. Basically entire engine coated in oil. Thankfully no fire.
But then again.cleaning that. Will connections start corroding? (Of course my response). “If it had burned you could have gotten a FORD”.

Fwiw, I have a 2019 ford f250 and it's the best truck, hands down. I've owned several dodge/ cummins and they where all great and super reliable, but this ford is a cut above. I have the 6.2 liter gas and it's a beast! 385 horsepower and 430 fp. Of torque. It's the smoothest revving engine I've ever had ( for a gas v8). But ford also has a new 7.3 liter gas engine with 430 horsepower and 475 fp. Of torque with a 10 speed trans. If I were you, I would test drive the ford! Jmo✌️

Drive the Toyota 10 more years and bank the payment you would be making, then pay cash for 2 trucks if you need one.
