I have been thinking about picking up another 1911 and want a commander. I have been drooling over the Ranger II, which isn't a true commander but has my attention. Does anyone have any experience with this pistol? Also, are there any other commanders that are in this price range (1k) that are comparable?

    Thanks,
    Jethro

Well your thoughts are correct. You need not look further then the Ranger II. High quality and good customer service. Dont think anymore, just drop the money, you will love it

I think they're great guns for the money I don't think you'll find any other guns that are in that price range that are better.

I have almost bought one several times, but they are not available with 3 dot sights, unfortunately.

Got mine just a couple of weeks ago in 9mm. Excellent fit and finish. 100% reliable out of the box and more accurate than I can ever hope to be.

About the only other commander for $1k comparable (if not better) quality (IMHO) would be a slightly used CBOB....if you can find one for that $. The Ranger2 is a great value. Only other thing I can think of is a Kimber ProTLE2 or CDP Pro (both 4").

I don't own a Ranger, but love STI in general.
