The famous Vermeer wood chipper often makes an appearance here in the Corral. The headquarters and plant in Pella, IA took a direct hit this afternoon from a powerful tornado. 7 employees taken to the hospital all released with minor injuries. Much damage in several other communities in central IA.

On the late news they had some video that looked as if they had some serious destruction there.

I didn't find out about the storms until this morning. Sounds like a lot of damage was done.

I grew up in Iowa, had a close friend who was from Pella. It's a nice little town, at least it was back then. If I remember right Maytag had a plant there.

Wow! I got my undergraduate degree from Central College in Pella. Vermeer, Rolscreen and Pella Windows were the major employers in that town. I also had a very good friend from Marshalltown. Hate hearing this.

The Maytag plant was in nearby Newton, IA. Whirlpool bought Maytag and that plant closed in ‘07 I believe.

Great school. I tried to get my daughter to attend Central College but she chose Wartburg (same conference) instead. Pella is know for its Dutch heritage and the annual Tulip Festival. A quiet conservative small city of about +\- 10,000 people.

The nearby city of Marshalltown got hit worse than Pella.

This is going to drive the price of wood chippers up for a little while.

I believe they are making wind turbines at that plant now.

Someone from Vermeer said they were celebrating their 70th anniversary when the storm hit.

Yes, I think I heard they had as many as 400 visitors at the plant that same day.
