Every good muti-utility tool should have a marlin spike...

The photo of the toothpick is misleading. It's an ear cleaner. Seriously. A tiny little scoop for pulling gunk out the ear.

Actually, the Etruscans invented the Original Roman Swiss Army Knife...

Didn't the Romans steal Etruscan women? Roman society was too full of men, so they lured (who I thought were) the Etruscans with prospects of athletic games, then went to their city and stole their women. It's no surprise that they stole their technology, too.

The Roman were magnificently ahead o other civilizations of their time. It's a shame to think of what was lost in the Dark Ages...and also what the Romans destroyed (Library of Alexandria).

Pretty neat, but how did they get the cork out of the wine bottle?

I think you're referring to The Rape of the Sabine Women. The Etruscans predated the Romans.

I guess military men have needed multitools longer than I ever imagined.
(carried a leatherman in Bosnia in 1996)

edited to add that the article implies that this tool was for a wealthy person, and such tools for a soldier would have been made of bronze and a bit simpler.
