Wash your face not once, but twice with soap. Not any soap, mind you, but bar soap. It leaves your beard squeaky clean so the blade can slice right through it like nothin's there.

The liquid soaps don't work as well.

I used to only wash my face once and my shaves were so so.

You guys (and some gals) can thank me later.

    I would respectfully challenge this.
My current disposable blade has been in the shower now for about 10 days. Tomorrow will be New Blade Day! I shave every day, in the shower, the very last thing. A shave after all the soap and steam. Blade never wears out. However, I will agree that bar soap (safeguard) while harsh, shaves closer than anything else.

I shave my melon and my face daily, and I can attest that bar soap works great!
I also shave in the shower and my Dollar Shave Club Executive cartridge lasts 3 weeks to a month before it feels like it's getting dull.

I like the bar soap because it strips the oils off and I think that is probably what dulls the blades. My wife buys me all kinds of shaving soaps, creams, gels, etc and I always end up back with bar soap.

My dad taught me that 40 years ago. He also taught me how to use a safety razor. All these new fanged shaver, and the old fashioned stuff works the best.
Oh and a straight razor is as good or better, if you can keep from cutting your throat. Ever wonder why all the prep work when getting a shave at the barber shop? Can you even get a shave at a barber shop any more?

I have a DE razor that I absolutely get a better shave with (face)...but try to shave your head with one of those and it's not pretty. I gave in to simplicity and just having one razor and retired the DE.

You can at the place I go to, but it's pricey.

My best shave is post shower, aloe vera baby oil on face, shave cream or soap, safety razor with a Personna blue Israeli blade, 2 passes, meaning shave once and do a quick second pass to catch any missed spots. Nivea after shave balm.

Braun Series 7 and don't wash your face before you shave with it.

I am using a Braun right now. It is OK, have had it about 18 months, Meh.
For electric, I prefer Norelco rotary shavers.
    Just a preference.

I second the shaving with a blade in the shower. Comfortable and close.

I have a very light beard. A disposable in the shower (just wet, no cream/gel/soap) lasts me two weeks.

Real Estate, OK fine. Here... It's the clover that grows on it. If my wife isn't up to date I do believe she could scrape the paint off a John Deere!
