An interesting read with some history unknown to moi.

I wonder if they teach bloodletting at Barber Colleges? Probably not.

So why is 'the beard' suddenly a 'white boy' thang?

I thought it was just an external sign of having hit a certain age and station in your life ...

... when you're retired from the Rat Race and realize you just don't give a sh*t anymore.

Let me just say that I'm not allowing certain people anywhere near my throat with a razor.

I stumbled across something the other day that was titled, "The Racism of Shoes in America," and wasted several minutes of my life reading about the history of shoes in America and how shoes are racist ...

They were apparently designed to make black people envious of what white people could afford and what they could not ... I kid you not.

This was the premise of the article - and the last paragraph said something to the effect:

"The long-standing social imbalance caused by generations of shoe-envy is now permanently ingrained in our society, and causes many minority children and adults to purchase shoes they cannot afford, just to show that they are as well-off as their white oppressors."

Not only shoes, but gun laws, alcohol laws and just about everything else is "supposedly" based on keeping the black man under control.

AND, there is some truth to it. I'm old enough to remember Jim Crow laws, and most of those laws were designed to keep the black man on a short leash.

Not all of the Jim Crow laws were repealed.

tl;dr version: Men have had to deal with facial hair for a long time. Attitudes toward beards & beard styles have changed due to style, labor force dynamics, access to skills, access to tools, public health issues, and cultural trends. Cultural attitudes about race at given times intersect with other habits of dress and appearance for some people.

If you're really into trivial history or beards, you might want to read it.

The insanity in it is that if this article catches on among leftist "do-gooders", you will be judged and condemned for your facial hair choices today based on what someone else might have believed 100-300 years ago in another time, place, and cultural setting.

So, we're going to revisit an article about facial hair from 4 1/2 years ago? Slow news day.

That works for me. I hate seeing some "dude" looking like a pirate! The scraggly face-look bothers me, too. Beard or non-beard? Can't shave due to working a lot? Fine. But just that unkempt look like you're too cheap to buy a razor is grubby.

That's the new metro-sexual look for confused young men.
A day old beard, glasses, skinny jeans and hair flipped up in the front.

Queer as a three dollar bill.

Looks like a lot of 'em let it grow longer than a day. On TV "the look" is prevalent in commercials and almost everything. If you can't shave, GTFO until you can find time. I suppose I'm old-fashioned but dressing up for whatever reason comes with a shave and a shower first.
