And it appears that they actually depict chess accurately which so often is not the case in television and movies. Good show.

I saw the trailer but haven't had the time to check it out. I am fairly good at chess, my little nephew taught me years ago. I am a much better player than they are now.

I watched the series and enjoyed it. For the most part I think it accurately portrayed the game and the personality quirks of those who devote untold hours to it.

One of the true chess legends that Hollywood and the media have failed to adequately portray is that of Bobby Fischer, who alone and with only fleeting support from close friends took on the massive, powerful Soviet Chess Union during the height of the Cold War. It was a crushing defeat for the tyranny that used chess as propaganda to advance the ideology that individual freedom and liberty was a corrupt American notion of political thought. This HBO documentary is the best treatment of Fischer and that era I've ever seen.
