And some more from the "Some Animals are more equal that others" crowd. Pelosi's bill will exempt retired Police officers.

Hey, I'm a retired officer, I want my exemption too.

This is the time most people on this board (aka current gun owners or experienced buyers) can let the masses go to the gun shows, Dick's, Cabela's and the like.

Just stopped at a pawn shop my MIL's boyfriend recommended. While I did walk out empty handed he had several dozen revolvers, Glocks slightly overpriced but not by much (3rd Gen Used Glock 17 with 2 high cap mags and night sites for $525-but the night sites were starting to dim), he has several pretty much new 870's for $300. I had never been there before was the real reason I went.

His ammo was wayover priced...and his high caps were crazy...but guns he had a plenty. He actually had several AR package deals with cases, 4-6 high caps, slings, etc on mid-end rifles (Bushmasters, RRAs and the like) for about $1200. The last show my BIL went to had dealers asking $2000+ for similiar rifles.

Went to several local gun shops (even some out of the way places and chain stores).

AR's were either gone or way over priced. Even a very fairly priced Gun Store in the past, had $69 Ruger 10-22 25 round mags. He mentioned that he was tired of guys buying them and selling for $100 at gun shows. Of course that was BS, He could have left them at the old price and limited them by one sale per customer, and only one sale every two hours out of the store, and he'd have been able to keep them to people that wanted to keep them, but let's be real....... He's a businessman, making what he can get for them.

    That is capitalism.

Civilians are now Third in Line....if you can't ban it, the Fed will buy it all with our tax dollars. This info below is from a manufacturer meeting in TX. Homeland Security is doing their part also. Looks like everyone is gearing up for a future conflict.

AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.

RELOADERS... ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes... it could be 6-9 months before things get caught up. Sorry for the bleak news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months. Stay tuned, we'll keep you posted...

Well, here we go again. Last time I saw the scary black rifles becoming scarce and got one before Barry's first coronation as the Dem Nominee. Hot a few mags, some ammo and some reloading supplies. Did not anticipate how short ammo and components would be. .380? Really?? Any way, after that scare subsided, I made a point to buy "stuff" regularly, I accelerated this over the last year. I'd like to have more, but have much more than I probably need.

You might want to plant a garden this year too. Interesting times are on the way.

    More info;

A friend found this on facebook and posted it on another shooters forum. It was put on FB by a Texas gun shop explaining current shortages:

Smith & Wesson-is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages. RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days. FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1. Remington-Maxed out! Armalite: Maxed out. DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product. COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's. LWRC:Making only black guns, running at full capacity...can't get enough gun quality steel to make barrels. Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind. AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation-wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rnds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line. MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags; do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon. RELOADERS!!!! ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes....it could be 6-9 months b/f things get caught up. Sorry for the bleak news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months.

I don't know if I see background checks as a huge problem.

With the exception of my mother, (who I want to carry a handgun for her protection-she wants to)

And my girlfriend (who also wants to carry a gun for self defense)

I would never sell a gun to anybody without a trip to the nearest FFL dealer for a background check anyway.

I believe some information is recorded during background checks about the particular gun that can constitute "backdoor gun registration", but I don't know much about that. Could someone educate me?

I'm not "advocating" mandatory checks, but if I had to choose between that and feinsteins raging hard on for a "new and improved" AWB complete with a magazine ban...

It's a problem because if you give an inch, they'll take a mile. It's a baby step toward a total gun ban, an infringement on the second amendment. As of right now there is no federal log of guns/owners. The only documentation is with the ffl that the gun was originally purchased from, and it is only there for 10 years.

This explains exactly why it is a problem eccho. If you don't believe that than move out here to California to live the dream of reasonable gun laws and see for yourself just how many other reasonable things socialist turds like Mark Leno can think of once they have passed laws mandating that ALL transfers MUST go through an FFL. Gun banning scum NEVER STOP WANTING MORE!

I see background checks as reasonable but not in keeping with the second amendment and the RKBA without infringement for all of "We the People". Unfortunately, we run into the other HALF or more of "We the People" who would just as soon do away with the 2A altogether.....

I would tack onto that background check legislation a couple of amendments. The first, that "Shall Issue" become universal in every state and secondly that if one of "We the People" has a CCW "Permit" (jeez I hate that word) that it be recognized as valid in each and every state in the Union, regardless of where that "We the People" person lives. I might even consider tacking on "open carry" to nail it shut.

All this having been said, once President Obama finishes stacking the SCOTUS with his people (remember, he only needs one more pro-Obama judge on the SCOTUS) all is up in the air anyway, no?

Universal background checks are another way of saying no more private sales -- at least in the sense that they are private.

The real problem: To enforce universal background checks, you would create a system of de facto registration. The problem with that? Once registration is in place, confiscation becomes doable.

Imagine we are 10 years down the road on universal background checks. Feinstein 2023 passes, with a ban on "assault weapons," a six-month mandatory buy-back and no grandfather clause thereafter. That law is workable because they have 10 years of records to use to send out notices/summonses/agents to those who own the weapons. No need to search every house on the street. You get a certified letter saying turn in AR-15 No. 1234567 within 30 days.

As it stands now, confiscation isn't really considered, in part because it's logistically impossible, because there really is no telling who owns what. (Even if they really are keeping and logging all the 4473s, there's millions of private sales untracked.) But after a decade or so of de facto universal registration it looks much easier.

As bugs would say "what a maroon"; the libs come out with a whole laundry list of restrictions and the gullible accept a couple minor restrictions as a "victory".

Universal background checks can not be enforced without universal registration. Once every gun is registered can you imagine what Sen Fine*****e's next AWB bill will look like.

Ever heard of a concept called "incrementalism"?

Freedom is not lost in a single fell swoop, it is lost one "reasonable" restriction at a time.

OK, let's say the universal background check goes into effect. I buy a gun from a buddy that he has had for years without a check. You "catch" me with it the next day. How ya gonna know I haven't had it for years unless there is universal registration?

I read another interesting stat the other day: enough firearms were sold in NOV & DEC to arm the armies of China AND India. On top of the number of arms in civilian hands already it is going to a massive effort to try to even register them all.

Exactly. Priv sale checks are impossible without full blown registration. Not going to happen. Not with any cooperation and i refuse. Line in the sand time. Come get em. Dare you.

And once backgound checks are in place, all it will take is a law mandating that they - EBRs - be papered as if NFA and with an amnesty period for everyone to git 'er done.

The masses of law abiding citizens will send in their form 4s. Just as law abiding citizens always obey laws.

It may take the ATF years to sift thru the pile of forms, but it will be eventualy be done and they will know who has what right now.

Next time you want to sell that AR given the reqt for a BG check - then another F4 transfer of some nominal amount will be a part of the sale process.
And the wait and wait and wait before you can conclude the sale between you and the buyer.

That is the danger of "simple background checks" and how they can be grown and grown.

Just say NO to ANY new gun laws - NONE. NO MORE.
