I personally think the gull wing doors might prove Tesla's first big misstep.

I can't see where a rack can ne used on top, all the SUV's I have ever driven accommodated my roof box.

Looking at them opening and open, I can't see how they are going to work inside a normal garage.

Pretty sure they will sell like hot cakes out here. I see more new Tesla's than MBZ, BMW combined.

Just on the news the doors have sensors on them not to hit the ceiling. No roof rack needed on an SUV you can't take on long trips.

Out here I don't think it will matter about not being able to take long trips, at least for a while. Tesla's are the new status symbol. You are definitely not one of the urban successful cool unless you have one. There will be lots of soccer moms sipping their latte's burning the crosswalk in these SUV's.

All I can say is if Tesla ever falls out of fashion, there will be no bottom in the stock.

The Tesla sedans are popular enough here that seeing one is no longer a novelty at all for me. However locally I have seen only two Leafs. I visited a friend outside of Atlanta a month or two ago and I was amazed at the number of Leafs I saw, including a couple in the same parking lot.

There's speculation tesla might add a hydraulic roof rack.

Its immaterial. It's 140k car. I don't see people putting crap on top of their Porsche Cayenne.

I was thinking the exact same thing with the exact same car as my reference. The type of people who buy this car, aren't going to be the type that use roof racks in the first place.

I have 3 guys on my team with Cayenne's, and a roof rack would never happen with them.

    Wouldn't be so sure:

Of course that's not an SUV but still, it's a $115K car.

Just because one fool does it doesn't mean it's representative of the population that will buy that car. I mean, someone bought a 458 and did a rainbow kitty wrap on it and changed out all of the badging to say "purrari ". That doesn't mean it's an option ferrari needs to add because one customer wants it or does it.

All valid points but I believe Thule actually produces that kit so there is some demand - though it could just be generic pieces assembled into that kit.

I was on the fence about the Model X until I saw that it came with bioweapons defense mode. Now it seems like a bargain to not contract weaponized anthrax going to work.

Locally, the Tesla is the chick daytime car. Runs to the spa, tennis club, clubhouse, etc. At nighttime or for anything more significant than meeting the girls for lunch, something else comes out of the garage. There are a million offerings out there in SUV market that actually offer some SUV capability, comfort and room.

How many SUVs actually are, any more? Some versions of the 4Runner, some Jeeps, maybe the XTerra? The vast majority just seem like big cars or minivans, a few of which can tow a small camper or boat.

Really wish there were more "real" SUV options that weren't solidly mommy-mobiles.

With regard to mommy mobile, mine has a respectable 380hp and a 6.2l V8.

It's managed back roads and snow with ease. Towed a coupla jet skis.

A Dodge Caravan it ain't.
