No, that's certainly not me. Imploded perhaps.

I'm wondering how many saw this show on TLC.

That's one of the freakiest things I've seen in a while. In a nutshell, it talks about steroids in general and focuses on a guy named Valentino. He had 28 inch upper arms at 5'-6" tall and eventually had some kind of medical problem and his arms just became huge blood and puss filled sacks. He had to have some kind of emergency surgery, ended up in jail, etc.

The show discussed how steroids are strictly illegal and black market in the USA. It made me wonder why cops don't just go round up Ronnie Coleman and the other obviously steroid-filled pro bodybuilders. Can "being so large that he couldn't get that big without illegal drugs" be considered probable cause?

I saw that show. It was jacked.

His arms looked qrotesque to start with. I'm all for a bad-*** muscular build, but that was just sick. Way beyond the cover of FLEX magazine kind of stuff. Just absurd.

But then, after the puss-filled infectious swelling and colapse...

    Holy Christ that was gross!

I thought the coolest shots where the ones of him holding his right arm up in half a "full biceps pose" and the biceps muscles just fall over on the side of his arm.

His girl friend that he had was hot. Hot enough to justify taking steroids even? Humm I wonder....

As I recall wasn't he arrested for dealing.

I thought he was. Perhaps I heard it wrong--I was falling asleep and missed the last 10 minutes or so.

Valentino used Synthol, an oil that is injected into the muscle to increase the size. It is impossible to have a single bodypart that disproportionately huge. His health problems were from injecting what is basically vegetable oil into the muscles. Abcesses developed and got worse.

Being big is not sufficient probable cause to search for steroids, no more than skipping work to surf is enough to search for weed, or rebuilding an engine at 4:00 AM means someone is on crank.

    I watched that...

    That guy had a sickness...

How can you look in the mirror and think that looks good?

According to him, he didn't use Synthol but propionate and Equipoise... he was pretty straight forward in the interviews about what he did and didn't do... so I would tend to believe him....

    Interesting inteview with him:

After all that, this is what it got him:

I'm not a lawyer, but it seems to me that they're different. A guy could skip work because he's a lazy bum. A guy could rebuild an engine at 0400 because he's a car nut and works the evening shift. Some of these guys are so big that it's probably completely impossible to get that big without steroids.

Anyway, don't see them being locked up, so maybe the law sees it the way you articulated. I'd be interested to know if this has come up in court and what was the resulting outcome.

Yep, and I've always thought that amplified the insanity/injustice of it all.

Did it say on the program how much Valentino could lift in the bench press or any other exercise? Are those muscles even functional?

    Just curious..

They didn't say. They just showed him pumping rep after rep of curls. His muscles don't even appear to contract or elongate.

[SARCASM]You don't know that!!! His muscles were legit, he got them training and following weider principles. He was a true hero showing what was possible with nothing but hard word and focusing on a single bodypart.[/SARCASM]

He claimed some fairly silly poundages when he first showed up on the scene, I think T-nation did an interview wiht him if you care enough to look it up. From what I recall, he never really demonstrated any extraodinary amount of strength, which seems about right considering his arms were mostly oil.

Those biceps are a farce but those shoulders are no joke! That dude had to be pretty falcon strong, like seated dumbbell presses with 150lb DBs for reps. At least you would think.

He may be big, but he definitely doesn't have a fighter's physique.
