I've been fascinated with this rifle since "Sgt Rock" comic books, and "Combat" was on TV. My father carried one on patrols in the Pacific Islands, WWII, when he wasn't welding on Higgins Landing Craft on beachheads.... Several of my friends, had fathers in the European Front that carried them.... My father said, "They were heavy as H**L, but you knew you were toting a real rifle."..... I held one once at a gun show, nearly 20 years ago, and my father was right. The owner was of WWII age, and had several, all original..... Admittedly, I "spaced out" for a minute while holding it....I'm sure you know what I mean.... History.... The owner snapped me out of it while smiling and saying, "Kinda gets to you, doesn't it.".... I've recently been reading a good bit about them..... I know that reproductions are available in different calibers, and that's great, keep the desire alive, but the original that held 8 rounds of .30-06, are still as General Patton said, "One of the greatest fighting implements ever invented". Bottom line, I'd love to see photos of some "Originals", and any story that may go with them. Thanks, First shot.
