630 died in one day in NYC. Either today or yesterday not sure how up to date the timeline was. One day...if you think this is nothing there is literally no hope for you. You will never be convinced of anything else not a chance. Personally all of those people should be quarantined away from rational thinking individuals....lmao. Maybe NYC??

In a summary of vital statistics for the City of New York published in 2016, the annual overall death rate from all causes was 575.4/100,000 population. Given NYCs population at the time, that amounts to 49,197 deaths per year, or just under 135 deaths per day from all causes.

The five leading causes of death for both sexes together was 1. heart disease, 2. malignancies, 3. influenza and pneumonia, 4. cerebrovascular disease, 5. chronic obstructive lung disease.

So in a normal year 135 people die in NYC per day from all causes which includes influenza. Right now we have over 4 1/2 times that number dying daily from covid-19 alone.

Yep. Nearly 1500 people in one day in America. The most 1 day CV deaths anywhere in the world, so far. And, in a few days, that number will be doubled, again.

Don't worry, though, it's just an over-hyped worldwide ploy to get Trump out of office......

HollowHead, Covid-19 is serious, just like the flu viruses that occur every year. So I ask you - why the panic?
Statements like yours only be add to be the lunacy. You are listening to the hype and ignoring reality.

Illnesses and mortality always spike during flu season. Nothing new here. Difference this year IS the hype.

    3,000 people died on 9/11.
Statistically, is that about 1,000,000 New Yorkers annually or is that about 9 per day. 8,132 Covid-19 cases since Dec. 2019 is about 1/4 typical flu season. So much for statistics.
    So Covid-19 is dangerous? Yeah-so?
Shut the world down every six months. That's a great plan.

Not sure where you’re getting your numbers.
NY has about 130k cases, and 4700 of those were fatal, and they’re only down to about 112k active. So it’s pretty concerning.

I mean I guess you could use your numbers, so long as you don’t mind looking rather foolish trying to compare this to a terrorist attack that happened once, or a seasonal bug with significantly lower rate of infection or mortality....

While we will not have the most accurate figures until we are looking back on things, Covid seems to cause significantly more morbidity and mortality than the flu, as well as being more contagious. It also does not have established, effective preventatives/treatments like the flu has.

    So, that is the difference.

130K CONFIRMED cases...actual infection rate is as high as 5-10 times the number of confirmed cases according to several medical studies I've seen. Which means the mortality rate is actually much lower. We won't know till long after all this is over...

Regardless...until the herd has immunity the same number of people are gonna die whether we do things like social distancing or not. Its just going to spread it out over a longer period of time an maybe not overwhelm our medical system. But its gonna kill the same number of people....

I’m not sure how you could come to the incorrect assesment that it would kill the same number of people either way, but that simply isn’t so.

Ah, so someone on the radio says it’s going to kill the same number regardless of if we sociably distance and flatten the curve than if we do nothing.

    Makes so much sense now......:freak:

Not necessarily. If transmission through the general population can be slowed down sufficiently, new treatment modalities might emerge and a vaccine might become available. That could very significantly reduce the eventual number of deaths compared to just letting nature take its course until 50-70% of the general population has developed adaptive immunity through contracting the virus.

There's a discussion on CNN about a variation in a single human gene. One version gets you the mild flu like illness from covid-19, the other gets you a life threatening illness.

    Then there's this: https://web.archive.org/web/2020040...ht-have-finally-found-its-secret-91182386efcb

The link is for a very science dense explanation. Together, if they are all correct, it explains why we've been chasing so many variations of a single illness.

AK, you are just a wealth of scientific prognostication.
What this world needs is more super scientist like you.
I apologize for all previous misunderstandings.

And are you also a Bernie devotee?
I would have sworn you were slightly more conservative than he.
