Dang questions like this are hard. The answer could change every hour of the day. I was thinking, "I Love Rock & Roll" and "Bad Reputation" and maybe some Buddy Holly or STray Cats or Sex PIstols...then I realized it's:

I thought about posting a Meatmen song as a third choice, but there literally is not one I'm allowed to post on Glock Talk - at least not a live video.

I didn't read every post, but you just can't have a rock 'n roll thread without this guy. From a national, as opposed to a regional, perspective he combined some genres and started it all big time.

    Take your pick...

    1955, "Mystery Train":

His first million seller, 1956, "Heartbreak Hotel":

Courtesy of Ray Charles, 1956, "I Got a Woman":

1957, third appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, "Don't Be Cruel":

IIRC, he's still wearing the velvet shirt his mother made for him.

One of the ones that got us girls in places we didn't know we had yet, 1957/58, "One Night with You":

Dancing to that one with your steady was "cloud nine" back in the day. :hearts:

He might not have been the very first, but he was the main reason rock 'n roll swept the nation and world. Unless you can remember some of the 1950s, you can't imagine how he changed popular music. It's still an amazing thing even this many years later.

It's sure changed a lot since then.
