Took me only 45 minutes start to finish, to measure, mark, and chisel cut it out.
I agree with most of the rest of your post... However, the information here is patently incorrect. We work on vehicles as new as 2019 (Fords, TRASH) and disconnecting the battery on these vehicles will absolutely clear *most*, if not *all* codes. We are a transmission shop and typically the battery will be disconnected for 3 hours at minimum, and sometimes over-night. When the battery is reconnected-there will be no codes, and the readiness monitors will not be fulfilled until driving, on average, at least 20+ miles, and sometimes more. BUT... The codes will definitely disappear... right off the bat from the battery being disconnected. Again, not trying to bash the rest of the good information you are giving, just giving you a real-world update on this situation.
Thanks for the info...
Okay, how about this. I understand my MINI would need to get a new battery coded by the dealer. I'm sure that'll be cheap. Like I said, it is a BMW.
I have never hard of this - it is just plain crazy -
So if your battery goes bad and you call AAA they can't replace your battery? You need to have it taken to a dealership?
Well,..... BMW also got rid of the engine dipstick, so....
..................YES I own a BMW- but it has a dipstick.
It still bugs me when a vehicle doesn't have a transmission dipstick -
Does it have something more than an idiot light to tell you you need to add oil?
Bill, on *some* cars you use a scanner to check transmission fluid level-think BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Saab, Volvo, etc;
However, some TRASH auto-makers require you to put the vehicle up in the air and check the trans fluid, with the engine/trans hot (so you are certain to get burned from the exhaust and HOT trans fluid you will inevitably get on you) from the pan side... Think... I know you guys already know.... Ford...
Easiest way to change headlight bulbs on the 2007 Tahoe is to remove front bumper cover

Edelbrock makes a police option manifold for your engine that'll never eat out the cooling passageway again.
I retired a bunch of years ago and never saw a 2019 ... so you probably right. Ah, yes! ... updates!
Hell, I never saw the vehicle year Chevy I'm driving!
The 2005s hadn't fallen off factory warranty yet .... so it would be a couple more years until they came into my shop.
It's certainly strange to be the same age now as old people!
A big digression ... I apologize.
I'd just be afraid of killing some gearmotors and HVAC controllers. Then again, I hear horror stories about frying the audio-visual system by making it think it's been stolen and then it self destructs as it's programmed to do and all the smoke gets out.
Same thing for SRS modules. We had lots of premature "ejaculations" when we'd d/c a battery and not insert a KAM. That's a sickening ka-boom that got very expensive very quickly.
Never knew you can dump the adaptive with a battery d/c though ... interesting! ... although a Chrysler miminivan would keep the adaptive until you open the ECM and remove the black label fron the E-cell and either let it see sunshine for a couple of hours or use an ulultravlig lighthon it for 5-10 minutes to erase the transmission shifting adaptive.
You can use a scanner, but Chrysler never had more than 50% compliant DLLs for a scanner to do it the first time.
I just jump into hashtags ... like #d2e.LLc.i44.5xc (that's gibberish ... don't actually use it) and rewrite some of it with a Zero-page cmd for a full tree erase.
You youngsters have it easy.
We made it that way for you.
No need to applaud ... send money ... we deserve it.
100% correct. But its easy!
Click - click... pop - pop ... and the cover's off .... or on ... whatever way your going.
There's a recognition factor that the computer(s) need to know if you got a real Bummer battery .... or a Pep Boys version (barf-o!)
Don't make your Bum-W barf!
the slipping/burning transmission is usually a dead give away something is wrong.
