Hey, even I can do that! :innocent:

Similar to what I've been told in the past - to be done after clearing STUPID code and just before wasting gas to sit in STUPID emissions testing line..... :impatient:

    They don't care...
I used to live in the detroit area and new engineers for the big 3 and toyota...

Goal one, can it be designed in such a way to lower the price point/raise the margin of the vehicle
Goal two, will it be performant and reliable..
Ease of repair is a distant third....

Compare taking down a hi point to taking down a more expensive pistol...
Sometime the cheapest design is actually more complicated.....
Auto engineers design with the hi point philosophy...

As one witty scribe put it years ago "I went to write you a brief letter, but I didn't have the time, so I wrote you a long one"

It's very common for the evap purge vent on top of gas tank on Chevys to go bad.. If someone is charging you $495 to drop a gas tank.. Find another shop.

My neighbor does general auto repair and if you bring him the part, will change it out for $175 here in Houston.

Yep - my view exactly -

At first it looked like a really easy fix - hardest part was dropping the spare tire, then 1 screw and a couple of snap on connections.

But after a little digging that was not the most likely cause - so I decided to let someone that know what they are doing fix it.

Just replacing parts and hoping it solves it did not seem like a good plan.

Her light did not come back on for 6 months - she traded the Jetta off so it is now someone else problem.

Car is at ~60K miles. First plug change is at 100K. Maybe I'll take it in now that I know about this issue. The other two known issues are the intake manifold warping (mine has been replaced), and the air suspension in the rear failing. Mine is still good but the air bladders will eventually need to be replaced.

I have it from a very reliable source that the engineer that did that was fired.

Replacement of a tail light, in a late model Cadillac STS... $500!
The rear corner of the body must be dismantled, in order to get to the LED bulb.
    So, they care more? \_0_/

We are about the same age, and of similar mindset on this.
While I will do some work on the old POS's that I drive, I have a standing rule on the wifes car.
If the end of warranty is near, dump it and get something new!
In fact, she did just that last week!

I already told them to get it done -

Maybe next time I will start a GT thread before I take it in -

My wife’s RDX went off warranty last Monday- 22,000 miles still runs like new.

She likes it and doesn’t like change so I can see her keeping it for a few more years.

The problem with driving with the check engine light always on is that if it is on for hours, such as a long drive, it can melt the plastic where it’s shining through.

Different vehicle...same problem. I left gas cap slightly loose. Can't shut off light. It cost $102 for that. I'm just going to run it.

Dealer said if light is not flashing it is not serious. Hope they are right.
