I heard an interesting listener call to TSP a few days ago. It was a question on the possible aftermath of the economic collapse.

One scenario has us reverting back to the vision that our founders had for the country.

The other one was more frightening, and to me, more plausible. In the vacuum of a collapse, a charismatic leader could rally the citizens to follow a totally different path. A true socialist/communist/fascist society could be developed.

Isn't this pretty much what happened in pre WW2 Germany? History shows Hitler as an evil man, but his oratory skills were amazing.

Which scenario do you see more likely to happen?
    Frightening, isn't it?

Of course. This is what the Socialists/Marxists/etc have already written in their books and spoken on their videos. The financial collapse IS their plan to bring about a socialist U.S.A.

Yep. Like I posted in the health insurance thread, dependency is a grave danger to us all.

Google the video on what happened in Atlanta when the food stamps were a day late. The crowd almost tore the building down.

ETA: And this is not Obama's creation. The wheels were set in motion decades ago. The track just happens to run out of rail when he's the President.

I'm not necessarily opposed to complete economic collapse. We'll never get a real zombie apocalypse and I like change for its own sake. I never gave up wanting to be this guy:

This was set in motion about 100 years ago with the advent of the 20th century progressive movement.

It is not Obama's creation but he is the chosen one and this is their golden hour. He has been groomed and his cv was created for this. I believe it was about a year ago when Soros was quoted as saying something to the nature of, "If he can't get it done we'll get someone else"
