Wow both are insanely amazingly very clean, used to have a 39 my myself but in BLUE wow god as my witness I really miss it too. Incidentally that was also the very same weapon that ASP had adapted to customize as there ASP Pistol with the unusual GutterSnipe Sight that you could use both eyes to vision the target. and its clear see thru grips, currrently the ASP is now going for approximately $3,800.00 - $5,000.00.

Enjoy both beautiful pieces in good health and stay well, and safe!

Yes, but S&W finally caught on themselves and came out with the 3913, and 3913 LS and NL as well as the "budget/utilitarian" 908. Almost all of the benefits of the ASP and DEVEL but much cheaper and factory supported.

The ASP, is was and always will be in a class of its own. No but's no if's its just the way it is. I severely regret i didn't get one one when i had an oppurtunity of buying a new one for only $925.00 back when i was residing in Connecticut.

If you want to get as close as possible, pick up a 3913 of your choice and get in touch with Bruce Gray at Grayguns. He knows a thing or two about them

Yeah, the Devel custom pistols go for a good deal these days if they're clean.

Yep.

I know its unpopular around here, and for good reason, but neither of these will ever be fired. In fact, they were packed back into their boxes right after the photo shoot. :)

I understand that as an unfired example is about always worth more than a fired example. One exception of course is if the gun can be traced to be being owned by someone famous. My guess is that in the future an unfired 39 will increase in value faster than an unfired Model 10.

I am not saying this to be argumentative, really I'm not, but in my collecting I have found that sometimes a model that is exremely popular may be more rare in NIB condition and more sought after than a less popular model. There are a lot of variables but I am willing to bet that there are more NIB 39s around than 10s. However 39s already, and as far as I remember have always, brought more than a model 10 in used conditin anyway

To make an extreme point, rarer than both of them is the S&W "Escort". I don't think one of them NIB would ever be worth more than a good to excellent 39 of the same age or newer.

I think I understand what you are saying, although I have seen as many new Model 10s as I have Model 39s. But that is partly because a year or three ago someone around here I guess was selling off a collection and for a while there were more than a few new 10s 15s etc. And I realize that alot of this can be regional and I admit my circles are limited.

But what I was suggesting is that my guess is that in the future a new condition Model 39 would be increase in value more than a new Model 10 because of desirability by collectors, more than actual rarity. Likewise an original steel frame 39 in about any condition will probably always be worth more than a new (aluminum) Model 39 because of desirability and rarity.

Both collectors and "accumulators" if you will drive the market.

To steal from another thread, given a new Model 39 and a decent condition 3913 side by side at the same price, I would pick the 3913 because I would want to shoot it and probably carry it a bit but I understand why a true collector would gravitate toward the Model 39.

Yah, I don't really think there are any "hard and fast" rules and there are so many exception based on trend and fads that it's a crapshoot.

I saw folks a couple of years ago paying outrageous prices for anything with "Python" on the barrel it was insane (like the model 29/Dirty Harry fad). I saw people bragging about getting an 80's Python and bragging that they got it for $50 less than (what I considered a gross overpay) someone else paid for a 90+% '59 Python.

I still don't know what caused that particular "rush" but I am willing to bet that if about 5 folks were to get together and buy up some particular model of almost anything we could start an internet stampede for them, even better if someone used them in a movie

That's also a good point.
