Turkey hunting, whats your suggestion?
What Prezz said,,, But I use a Mossberg 835 Ultimag with excellent results.
Doesn't matter. Single shot/pump/auto/double all will work. 3 or 3.5 magnums aren't needed either. Every turkey I've killed has been laid out with a 2 3/4 mag dram equivilent load. Never lost a single bird. Turkeys are both stupid and easy to kill. My hunting partner's 14 year old son has killed three turkeys in the last two years with a 20 guage. Just be sure it has a full or tighter choke.
They have great eyesight and that's about all you can say about the birds.
Tight choked 12ga seems to do it.
Rem 870 12 gauge is my turkey gun
remington 870 superexpress with remington 21" cantilver bbl and 4x scope is my turkey killing, add 1 .7/8th of #5s and you have a perfect match and winning combo. Not too many turkey will live thru this unless you flat out miss.
[Turkeys are both stupid and easy to kill}
Turkeys are actually smart game animals and awhole lot smarter and harder to kill than a deer.
I have two turkey guns at the moment, a Mossberg 500 12 guage 24" barrel and a Benelli Nova 12 guage 24" barrel. Both have proven to be excellent guns in the turkey woods.
Now I'm working on getting my dream turkey gun. A Thompson Center Encore 12 guage with a EOTECH sight mounted on top. One shot, One Kill ;f
any 12ga..with 2 3/4 or 3' loads..number 5's
or any .22 magnum rifle..ahhh those were the days..
Custom Flintlock Fowler
Another vote for Mossberg 835. I generally use 2 3/4 turkey loads.
I cast my vote for 22 magnum.
