I have purchased and collected my fair share of Glocks i.e. 17M, 19M G17 G1, etc. I have an opportunity to purchase a Glock 17L. I have to admit it is an appealing gun, but not sure why.

Wondering what peoples opinion where of the 17L from shootability to collectability.

Cheers!

I have had one for about 8 years and I really like it. I am glad I purchased it. It gets fired no more than 2-3 times per year because it’s too long to practically carry / conceal.
Is a great target/ range / nightstand gun.

For me at least, the longer sight radius makes it super accurate. Also, it has adjustable rear sights. It’s a great gun to get you dialed in as a shooter. If you miss, it is absolutely your fault.
I find it is a little sensitive to any limp wristing so handing it off to inexperienced shooters can be interesting.
You will not see many around and they are a conversation piece.
I love mine and I would encourage folks to get one.

I’d probably have one if it wasn’t for the fact that they don’t fit in the competition box. As in, they literally do not fit. Too much long boi! That being said, if I were to happen upon one at a local store at a good price, it’d still probably be coming home with me.

At one point I had a G24C. I only bought it because it looked like new but was in the used case at the local shop for $400. I found it completely impractical, but at one point I was going to try to get a 357 sig barrel for it.

I ended up trading it along with a well used, 2016 era Walther P99 straight up for a Sig 556 classic with the folding skeleton stock.

I don’t miss it. The long LONG slides are my least favorite Glocks. People do collect them though and they tend to go for a slight premium usually.

I must try mine out today for the first time. Will also bring a 17.4 and my Dan Wesson specialist commander

Well it shoots like a tack driving 22. But it dosent feed reliably with 115s.
The other 9s fed perfect. The dan wesson likes rem golden sabers

I'd love to have one, but the collector prices they command now I'm just not willing to spend on a Glock. Saw one go on Gunbroker for $1.5k+ a few days ago. I e-mailed Glock to see if they planned to produce them anytime soon and the answer was basically, only if a distributor makes a big special run order.

I have a G40 in 10mm that looks similar but is more like grasping a 2x4. Would love to have a long slide in 9mm.

I've always kind of wanted one, but they were never available when I wanted one.
I bought a 34 instead and it rarely ever gets shot. It's pretty impractical for most anything but comp shooting, or a range toy. I'm not sure the extra half inch would make much of a difference.

Its funny this thread came up because I had forgotten all about buying a 17L Gen 4 in 2015. I looked up my records and it cost $480 (Blue Label) from GT. It must have been impulse buy at the time. It’s unfired, factory new and stashed in the safe.
Now if I had invested that $480 in Tesla stock instead, it would be worth over $8,600 today.
Win some, lose some.

The "what if" scenarios don't play for me when it comes to the stock market. Because...plenty of those scenarios go the other way. Not long ago with the Game Stop crap, friend called me and said to me... "Imagine if we would have invested $10K". My reply..."Don't have to, wouldn't have invest in that PoS company in any scenario that would have seen me as a stockholder when all of that went down."

Great gun! Loved mine

I bought one once hoping to improve my scores at GSSF but no success. My G26 still outshoots the 17L and beloved G17s gen4 and gen5.

I had one when i was younger but had to sell it when i needed money to take care of my dog's vet bill. I liked mine and if one came along at the right price i'd buy another. It was my favorite Glock by far.

I picked up a Gen5 34 MOS on impulse when I saw it was blue label and had no front serrations. I dropped about 4k down the tube and I like it but that said it's my least favorite Glock and I have a good number of em. All personal as I just don't tend to like long slides. The only longer slides I like are my M&P Pro models in 9mm and 40. Even longer 17L slide is a turn off for me.

If you like it, go for it. You only live once and you aren't taking it with you!

I've never had a G17L but I have had a G24 and G24C over the years, and I'd jump at the opportunity to buy a Gen4 or Gen5 version, not sure why they never made it past Gen3.
