Actually a pretty good series of articles, highlighting what a cluster it has been since about the first or 2nd year. It doesn’t highlight Rep or Dem for lies and manipulation, it calls out BOTH sides.

They could be correct, but they can’t be credible.

Every war we have fought is a cluster. Especially this one where you have to pay back stabbing dirty warlords for their support. As if the British and the Russian history taught us nothing

We should have put a string nukes across Eastern Afghanistan and called it quits...they would have hated us for 50 years, but they would still be talking about it for a 100....

“What are we trying to do here? We didn’t have the foggiest notion of what we were undertaking.” - LtGen. Douglas Lute, US Army.

People have been saying that on GT for years and have been criticized for doing so.

Actually, we've been there over 30 years screwing over the Russians and now getting screwed over ourselves. Let the Canadians handle it.

    GTF outta' there.

We had to go in because the Taliban were allowing terrorists to operate openly. Not to mention we had to avenge 9/11.

That country was one earthquake away from becoming a pile of rubble. They haven't had a functioning, reliable government in at least two generations. We cannot expect them to pull it together in one. Iraq was at least a more modern society before we went in. Afghanistan was basically where we were in about 1800. At best.

No strategy for winning, or even an idea of what winning in Afghanistan would look like, wasting hundreds of billions in corruption and stupidity, blatant lies to the US people, and I’ve only read a few sections.

“A person identified only as a senior National Security Council official said there was constant pressure from the Obama White House and Pentagon to produce figures to show the troop surge of 2009 to 2011 was working, despite hard evidence to the contrary.

“It was impossible to create good metrics. We tried using troop numbers trained, violence levels, control of territory and none of it painted an accurate picture,”the senior NSC official told government interviewers in 2016. “The metrics were always manipulated for the duration of the war.”

Even when casualty counts and other figures looked bad, the senior NSC official said, the White House and Pentagon would spin them to the point of absurdity. Suicide bombings in Kabul were portrayed as a sign of the Taliban’s desperation, that the insurgents were too weak to engage in direct combat. Meanwhile, a rise in U.S. troop deaths was cited as proof that American forces were taking the fight to the enemy.”

Our government seems to be using perpetual war to keep the economy afloat and create wealth and job security for the military industrial complex and their shareholders.

I remember reading that even Alexander the Great, among many others had, great difficulty dealing with what is today Afghanistan.

    https://thediplomat.com/2017/06/why-is-afghanistan-the-graveyard-of-empires/
"Empire after empire, nation after nation have failed to pacify what is today the modern territory of Afghanistan, giving the region the nickname “Graveyard of Empires, ” even if sometimes those empires won some initial battles and made inroads into the region."

Our leaders should have listened to George Santayana concerning forgetting history.

Drone problems from afar. Send machines to help the peaceful ones and to kill the ones that need killing.

I have yet to hear from either side what our end-game is...leave these sad folks alone...let them dwell in Medieval times if they choose, or let them revolt if they wish to join the rest of the world, but for goodness sake, do Not spill any more precious American blood over there!

In the portions of the articles I got thru today, that was one of the issues-no end-game, no idea of what “winning” would consist of or look like. No strategy, only tactics which changed regularly.
