Sometimes graphics and pictures will come through just fine and sometimes all I see is a big square outline with a very small box in the upper left hand corner with a red x in it. What is this? How can I correct this? What needs to be done so the picture will be displayed?

    Thanks.

The little red X means that the browser was unable to download the image file that belongs in that space. There are a bunch of possible reasons for this. For example:

    • Bad coding of the website, producing a link to a missing file
    • Network problems, preventing the graphic file from being downloaded but not the web page file
    • Browser settings preventing you from downloading images from a different web site (sort of a poor man's adblocker)
    • Some joker linked to an image of a little red X :)
There are a couple ways to try again. If the site coding is bad, you're out of luck. However, the network error possibility is pretty easy to resolve. You can either refresh the web page by clicking on the F5 key or the refresh button, or you can right-click on the red X and select "Show Image" or some such (depends on what browser you're using). That will occasionally tell the browser to attempt the download again.

Sometimes not bad codding but some sort of active X application that either needs to be downloaded in order to view the image or just holding down the Ctrl key when you click on that site to download the pic or app.

    But user beware.

If your are running a firewall like zonealarm it can also be blocking the photos. You can try disabling the firewall and see if the load.
