    Lots of discussion about BBQ and such, but those of us blessed to be living here in the Republic know BBQ is just one thing that makes Texas Rock. What is your favorite "Texas best..."? I'll start:

    Texas best catfish and onion rings is Clear Springs Restaurant, New Braunfels. http://www.clearspringscafe.com/

    The original Hard 8 BBQ in Stephenville is as good as it gets followed closely by Up N Smoke in Keller.

    GreenDrake:

    I've been searching several supermarkets for "brisket." Have never found any meat labeled as such. Are briskets sold as some other name/cut?

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    I'm not GreenDrake, but he seems to be the man around here on BBQ. I'm sure he'd tell you Boston Butt, a.k.a. Pork Shoulder.

    I don't eat much Bar-B-Que but when I lived in Austin the best I ate was at the Salt Lick just south of town. The way that city has grown in the past 20 years it probably is in town now.

    BBQ = Cook my own
    Lime Creek Rd make a left at Jones Rd to Marble Falls in the Spring to see the Blue Bonnets
    2222 was my private race track in the 70's on my CB 750 before they took out the curves
    The road between Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park at noon in all those trees and shadowes was outstanding but have not been back from the Labor day fires.
    Ben Taub back in the 70's I was there in the emergency and watched people walk out from knife wounds and tired of waiting 8 hrs.
    Salt Lick takes only cash and heard by a good source it is owened by Asians.
    Ft Hood always nice cool weather and no chiggers or poison ivy and like a vacation resort.

    I'm not GreenDrake, either, but I am certain that Boston Butt and Pork Shoulder are NOT the same as beef brisket.

    Gotta disagree with ya on Central Texas in Pearland. Spring Creek BBQ on 518 blows them away IMO. Best brisket and pulled pork this side of Rudy's. :wavey:

    Well, the cash only is true, but doesn't seem to bother anyone. Oh my goodness, you have to bring your own beer as well.

    :crying:

    And yeah, there is Japanese in the owners bloodline. It gives a history on the menu. The original couple to settle there... The wife was Japanese.
