Juaquin Jackson was a Texas Ranger from 1966 to 1993. I have read of some of the things he has done and they remind me of things the old timers in my department would have done around the same time frame. I find it had to understand why he thinks mag capacity should be limited to 5 rounds.

I hear all this talk of Texas being a gunowner's paradise then I see this. WTF?

Thats simple....its not. Only 6 states prohibit all open carry, Texas is one of them.

Phew! My 2-shot derringer is safe.

Plus, he doesn't want to be outgunned from his wheel gun.

He's a former LEO. I think the mindset has always been it's them against us. They call us citizens but call themselves officers.

When I first became an officer, we used revolvers.
Why would anyone need more than 6 (or 5) shots and a couple of reloads?

That would make one of my firearms OK.

I asume he is talking rifles. Like the reminton 700 and other bolt guns with 4-5 round magazine.

    Darned Fudd.

Pretty much. We have good CCW laws for the most part but I find it embarrassing that Texas is one of a handful of states that does not have some form of open carry (unless you count private property). Even as far as ranges go it seems like we keep losing them. Not sure why he thinks mag capacity should be limited to 5 as that sounds pretty absurd considering that the 1911 most Texas Rangers carry holds more than that. I guess if I had Chuck Norris at my disposal like they do then I'd be ok with 5 rounds or less.

Why is it surprising that a Texas ranger does not think you need lots of bullets?

isn't their motto one riot, ONE ranger?

He's an old man and a product of another era. Cut him some slack. Eric

Bah. We have our idiots too. Sorry, but just because someone makes it to be a Texas Ranger doesn't mean they're an authority on everything...or anything, for that matter.

The guy is a legend around here.

The other side of that is, he doesnt speak for Texas.

I would bet money that most of the people here would revel in hanging out with the guy. Great stories, great history, it would be a fine time. You find out one thing about him you are not a fan of and now he is "the enemy?"

Given the fact he is on the same side as you, he is NOT against you, to be really honest, he is not on as extreme an end of the spectrum as you are.

    It doesn't make the "enemy" just some-one I don't agree with !

Find a gun with five or less rounds that any of us would want to carry would be some epic quest in itself .

Because he's a cop and he knows he can have all the bullets he wants. Standard cap mags are only for the privileged.

No explanation need, not everybody in Texans is pro gun nor are all LEOs. It would silly to think otherwise.

I think he represents a part of LEO establishment, particularly common in states that do restrict RKBA, that believes only the police are sufficiently qualified to carry. Name your favorite restriction, it all boils down to the one common denominator--the idea that the average man should not be given such power to defend life and liberty.

This is an overly broad statement.

Yes, there are some LEOs who feel that way, but most who you *think* feel that way dont....they have a much more moderated stance that perhaps the gun itself isnt the only answer. Perhaps a higher level of vetting/training/whatever and then go forth and be armed.

I am not on that side but it is still an understandable and reasonable stance, no matter who thinks that way. (even if you and I, dont agree with that stance)

Maybe I was a tad harsh. I strongly disagree with him. I read his book some years back, and he did have some good stories.
