I have a question concerning tents. What do these weights mean?

    Trail weight: 3lbs. 10oz.
    Packed weight: 4lbs. 5oz.
    Fastpack weight: 2lbs. 6oz.

I mean, what is the difference?

    Thanks! ;c

what tent are you refering to and what are the options? ( tent bottom savers, stakes, framepack vrs non,etc......) I think that's what are of those weights are refering to.

I have a Eureka Solitire that IIRC weighs around 3lb and boy it feels like 24lb after carrying it around for 2hrs.;)

Trail Weight = Tent, rainfly, poles and stuff sack.

Pack Weight = all of the above plus, guy lines, stakes and anything else that came with the tent.

Fast Pack Weight = Tent and poles only or rainfly and poles only depending on design.

When comparing tent weights always go by the pack weight. Some companies differ on what items they include in trail and fast pack weights. Some don't even list a fast pack weight and call it the trail weight instead. So you'd be comparing apples and oranges.

You can also expect a few more ounces than what is listed on any tent, and a lot of other gear. Companies reporting gear weight is kind of like companies claiming fps on factory ammo. It'll be close, but never as good as what was claimed.

Ah...now I understand. Strange way to define that stuff, IMO.

mpol777, thanks for "expanding my horizons".

    "fastpack"
can mean carrying the minimal amount of line, stakes, and omitting rainfly, footprints, and even stuffsacks according to anticipated weather or crawling/flying insects.
These are fairweather endurance runners who find some kind of joy in covering too much lineage and not enough acreage. they usually wear heart monitors and dont know how to cook.
