What do you guys know about this firearm? Looks kinda cool... However it is DOUBLE STACK *suspense music*:wow:

I was told Para's Warthog was HORRENDOUS!

What are you guys' thoughts?

I would say that is a very good descrition of the Warthog. I fired, or should I say tried to fire, one once. I could not get a full magazine through it without a malfunction.
owned one quite a while ago. i really liked the trigger, but i had it in the smith shop for some reason and he told me the frame near the muzzel had a hairline crack. only had less than 250 rounds through it and none of them were hot-good luck

The 1911 is SA and single stack.

Para builds mostly junk anyway. They're far below average quality.
Gotta agree with Bac here.

<- NOT a Para fan.

It's Para. That's my very first impression.
Seem to remember someone built a 10mm out of one.
Following week, Japan flooded.

My dad has an old (10+ years, I believe) Para .45 that has been rock solid and reliable as hell. All of their new stuff, though, seems to be complete junk.

If you want a double-stack .45, I'd go with an HK or FN LONG before a Para.

If bac says it's junk I would listen. He does not use that word loosely..
I remember in the early 90's paras were much better that colts and some would argue better than springfield, my how times have changed. I have a couple single action double stacks from that era and I think they are great, rock solid, never a problem and big heavy and totally unusable for anything other a range gun

Bob Hunter built 10mms on using Para's P16 .40. He used to pop up and talk about it on www.1911forum.com whenever the topic came up. Fairly straightforward. I believe he preferred the approach of reaming the chamber of the .40 barrel that came with the gun. The people who pay him to do the conversion usually get alot of other stuff done at the same time.

Japan floods all the time. That why rice grows so well there.

I have 3 Paras and they've done OK, but I haven't put thousands of round through them either. I read about lots of problems online, mostly these days complaints revolve around their "power extractor." Seems to break more often than just about anything else.
I have the para Ord p12 LDA......it has the best single action trigger, now maybe I was the lucky one. But I had a standard P12 for years, that's why I up graded to the P12 LDA. Did a 2 day self defense course, fired about 1200 rounds.....no failures at all.
Now maybe I'm just the lucky guy that has had two perfect P12s in a row but I don't think so. Most very negative remarks are from guys that had one bad experience and trash the whole line, I call it knee jerk trashing. It's their way of getting back at the company. I like the Para Ord line just like I like the Kimberly, Springfield and others.

Agreed, when the resident SME gives a thumbs down on a product, there's probably a reason.

There are lots of people who have been lucky. But there are way too many have been lucky in the other direction. Paras are priced such that they shouldn't experience as many problems as they do. There's a thread I remember where the front quarter of the slide fractured and went flying down range. Dangedest thing I ever did see. Wouldn't even have believed it If it wasn't for some excellent pictures.
Para does not have a great word of mouth recently.

That being said I have owned two. A SS Warthawg and a LTC. Both were good 1911s, the Warthawg required a very firm grip to function perfectly but when help correctly shot very well. The LTC was an outstanding 1911. I picked it up within 1 week of picking up a Baer TRS Commanche. Breaking both in at the same time the LTC ran better than the Bear thru the first 1000 rounds. Not to say the Baer is not a better 1911 (it is) but the LTC more than held it own IMO.

It was a ugly blue color, and not they pretty gun blue but some type of coating

Not sure I'm a subject matter expert, but I do feel strongly about Para. My current models run fine, but the quality of parts (including a cast slide) is not good.
