I think they tried to outrun it to the end of the trestle. There were four kids, 3 girls and a boy. The boy made it.

    Sad, Prayers to the family!
To think back when I was a kid, 10 YO maybee a little older. We used to line up on the railroad bridge and see who could be the last one to stand on the bridge when the train was coming. At the last second we would jump into the nasty brackish brown mud water, We thought that was fun!

I know they don't know me from Adam, but tell them they're in my prayers as well. This was all over the news here in Orlando this morning.

If you're old enough to be out on your own, you're old enough to recognize certain dangers. Hopefully their decision to cross will be portrayed as what it was and not some random, tragic accident.

On a serious not, FAA, all our best wishes are with them. If my daughter died like that, even in an accident, I'd be out for blood.

My neighbor is an engineer. He said it is only a question of when you will run someone over. He worked with a guy that had a teenage girl separate from a group she was with and step right in front of the train. That would be hard to get out of your head.

He is sadly right and the conductor has to go back and see the carnage as well, that lives forever in a persons mind. Most engineers I know have hit somebody and I have had a few near misses because somebody was in a hurry to almost die.

The whole situation is so tragic. It was also so avoidable. We need to teach people, especially youngsters to STAY OFF OF RAILROAD TRACKS!

Trains are big and extremely heavy. A large (long) heavily loaded train can take more than a mile to come to a stop from 55 Mph. My brother was a railroader for a lot of years, but was lucky enough to have not had an accident. A friend of his wasn't so lucky. He was driving a train up in Massachusetts when some idiot tried to beat the train at a street level crossing. Two people were killed. That front coupler crushed the driver's skull. My brother's friend picked up and carried around an undeserved burden of guilt for some time. We finally convinced him that the only guilty party was the car's driver.

Very sad. It sounds like they panicked and failed to see their escape routes because they were probably fixated on the train. I also feel for the first responders on that one. Things like that stick with you.

My sister was three years behind me in school. After I graduated but she was still in school they had an assembly about the dangers of trains. I always thought that was the most ridiculous thing to have an assembly on, but apparently this stuff happens way more than I realized.
