So 3 teens break into a house with a rifle. 2 boys 15 and 13 and a 16 year old girl. The girl knocks on the door asking to use the phone. The homeowner say no and as he goes to close the door the 15 year old pops up with the rifle. Now this where it gets unclear, but for some reason the girl try's to mace the home owner hitting no only him but the gunman as well. Now this is where things go wrong for the home invaders. The home owner was a former Marine, meaning he has dealt with mace and other such sprays. The home owner was able to use that time to put the teen into a choke hold disarming him. Unfortunately in the process his windpipe was crushed a few days later. The prosecutor called it heart breaking, and I agree to a degree. It is sad that he set in motion his own death. But the kid had been in and out of juvy 13 times since he was 9. Then in what can only be called an attempt to intimidate the victim the boys family and friend's, nearly 24 of them gather outside the mans house. Because you know it was not his fault he attempted armed robbery. He was a good kid who did not deserve to die, the home owner should have just let him rob them.

Why no felony murder charges? They went with weapons. They should all be charged with the death.
The family should apologize to the victim.
The Champaign County Illinois States Attorney is a Democrat that is more known for dropping charges than pressing charges.

"Case takes ‘heartbreaking’ turn

Mourners gather on both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue in Urbana to grieve the death of Davontae Brown, 15, on Friday, May 1, 2020.

URBANA — Some 58 hours after making the fateful decision to break into an Urbana man’s home while armed, a Champaign teen died. Davontae Brown, 15, died in the critical care unit of Carle Hospital in Urbana at 5:30 a.m. Friday, just days shy of his 16th birthday. He never regained consciousness after passing out while in a chokehold applied by a man defending himself and his home Tuesday night.

On Friday afternoon, a group of people grieving for the teen gathered outside the Pennsylvania Avenue home of the man thrust into the limelight for his protective actions. They released balloons and dispersed after a few minutes.

Davontae’s 16-year-old female cousin, police learned, had knocked on the man’s door and as a ruse to gain admission, asked if she could use his phone. He said no and began to close the door when Davontae, holding a rifle, made his unwelcome entry.

“He was referred to the Youth Assessment Center 13 times beginning in 2014,” she said, noting that he would have been 9 at the time of that initial contact. Davontae did have three prior convictions for retail theft so Rietz said she is familiar with his mother. Rietz said within the court system, Davontae had participated in the juvenile court diversion program through probation, that he and his mother went through “Parenting with Love and Limits,” and that he had received both inpatient and outpatient treatment for substance abuse.

He was on probation for aggravated battery for having used a stun gun in the parking lot of a store in Champaign last October on the same 16-year-old cousin who is now in custody. “She’s a young mother. She cares. She’s always been there for every hearing. She’s tried. She’s always supported the system,” Rietz said.

Sorry W420Hunter, zero sympathy for the kid and his other social misfit "friends". You force your way into someone's house, spray him with Mace and we should care the kid died from injuries inflicted by the man determined to save his own life?

Society saved tons of $ by not having to deal with this violent clown down the road. Odds he'd ever become a decent member of society.....dang near zero, zip, nada. Don

Untrue story. Not such thing as a “former” Marine unless he was convicted of a felony or dishonorable discharge.

California (?) did its first execution in years. They had a traffic report daily for Los Angeles provided by Highway Patrol. Some reporter asked the CHP sergeant what he thought. He answered "I find it really sad". Th reporter asked "You're sad he was put to death?" The officer replied "No, it's sad that he CHOSE to die that way. He made that decision when he chose to do the crime!"

State’s Attorney Julia Rietz has modeled herself after the states attorney in Baltimore, your know Merlyn Mosby. Both are dirtbags!
