It's only a 20 year study. What about year 21?

It was also only men! So obviously we know it's flawed.

Who cares? The teenagers studied will be well into adulthood by that time, and no one will GAFF about them.

How often do you hear anti-drug people shout "Think of the adults! Ban it for the adults!" ?

What is really interesting is there seems to be NO American Physiological Association.

There is an American Psychological Association and an American Physiological Society, but not the above.

    Hmmm....

As with many things, it is all in the amount. I've know people that shaved about 20 IQ points smoking weed.

Teen use that stops upon adulthood? I do not doubt it. Teen use that continues through adulthood? No doubt... HH

I disagree with the final findings, but not with their methodology. I'm going to give them 100% validity to their findings, based on the metrics they measured from.

They are leaving out one of the most prevalent traits of marijuana use, one that has been documented repeatedly, that of amotivational syndrome.

Stoners are more content with their lot in life, regardless of how high or low on their economic scale they fall. Thank God, or nobody could stand to be a cashier or server.

However, that actually works against them. We as both a culture and as individuals react to negative stimuli much faster than we do to positive. We will get a blanket if we are cold, will pay the power bill because we don't want to sit around in the dark with no tunes or TV, and will make the car payment because we don't want to walk.

Stoners will just take all this in stride and no prob, dood, don't harsh my mellow. Well, sometimes we just need a good mellow harshing to get our asses in gear.

    Good catch.

I suspect you stopped smoking weed early if you ever started.

I always find comments like these interesting because while I certainly know of a few like that, most of the pot smokers I know today are highly successful by most any measure: physicians, surgeons, electrical engineer, Harvard MBA, real estate multimillionaire.

What the people I listed happen to have in common is that they don't answer to anyone else or anyone who demands they pee in a cup as a condition of employment, none are Union and none are public employees. They're accomplished professionals.

Perhaps it's just the company folks keep

I've known a lot of folks like you describe as well, know one that built a multi million dollar company, sold it, then built two more that he sold as well. He is filthy rich, and last I talked to him is trying to decide between three different philanthropic organizations he has been invited to work with as a fundraiser. He blazes up at a ridiculous level, and has been getting pharmaceutical grade pot for the past decade.

However, I also knew him before he discovered weed, and if anyone needed throttling down, he did. It slows him down so he can function at a normal level.

But, he is the one exception to the rule I know personally that benefited from weed. Most just seem to maintain. For every one of him there are ten basement dwellers waiting on Ma to finish the corned beef and cabbage.

    Perhaps.

I used to hear this line of reasoning from my son a few years ago. The thing is, that I can drive to a neighborhood with million dollar homes, and I can point to this home or that home and say that the guy living there is/was a heavy user.

Then I can drive to a subsidized housing area or trailer park, and I can just start counting the heavy users as I begin to enter the neighborhood.

I'm in general agreement with plp. It might not make you stupid or immature, but it sure does seem to have a demotivational effect.
