I'm going with taxslayer.com again this year, because it's FREE for military. I e-file on the 5th. BAMCIS

So how 'bout everyone else? What do you use?

My dad is gullible enough to do mine for me for free.

I do mine by hand because the first time I used a software package, it allowed me to make an expensive mistake. I was so careful, or ignorant, last year that a few months after I wrote a big check to the IRS, they wrote a small check to me. They didn't explain what I did wrong, so I'll probably do it wrong again.

I do not trust professional tax preparers. Their interest is in getting my money. My interest is in keeping me out of jail.

I used to have a CPA do my returns....

But now I have a GOOD CPA do them.

My last one didn't have a good grasp on the foriegn tax credt deal and I ended up paying a buttload of $$ over the past few years. My new and improved guy went over the old returns...got my money back plus some and all for a lot less than than the previous guy.

If you've got a pretty straight forward return...not too many deductions, then it's not too complicated....but even monitary geniuses like our current Sec of Treasury little Tim Geithner can make a 'boo-boo' on his returns..

But unless you are a certified Obama Rump-Swab...then the penalites for you would be a little higher.:steamed:

I've done my own taxes using software for, well, as long as software for taxes has been available. This year I consulted a CPA for the first time in my life and he will now do my taxes as well.

Turns out that tax software is only as smart as the person using it.:embarassed::embarassed::embarassed:

Have been using TurboTax for about 8 years, the BASIC edition. Works good for me and it's cheap.

I use H&R Block's TaxCut software. Just got this year's in the mail, and it is now called H&R Block At Home.

They must have dropped the "TaxCut" name now that Obama and his cohorts are running things.

Mine, too. He's a good CPA, and I've brought him lots of business over the years, so he's making out too.

Some of my wife's family didn't want to use him, but then they had some bad feelings about their current CPA, one got audited, another was told they couldn't take an exemption for a 17 year old dependent. So, now they pretty much all use my dad.

Hmm. I actually voted as a Democrat in the primaries. I think that makes me exempt this year. ;)

I think I used turbo tax last year. I don't have anything complicated, no lease/car/house payments, live at home with the parents, no wife or kids... Just 1 legal job and interest from 2 accounts.

Should I look into having a cpa do mine or no? :dunno:

I have a good accountant. What I pay him compared to what he saves me in taxes owed is ridiculous.
