Is there a legal way to protest a tax?

i.e. Social security is not working. Can someone take the Gov. to court to protest this tax that doesn't work?

If you are arrested for tax evasion and get a sympathetic jury at federal court you might get a shot otherwise you can complain to your congress people (to no avail), Sorry but we have been bamboozled when it comes to taxes.

If they looked at what they paid in vs. what they are getting they may change their mind.

Additionally, with the demographic winter that is coming, I don't see a way for it to continue.

Taxes work great for the intended purpose (and it isn't funding government).

It's been working just fine! We were able to elect the lesser of two evils pretty much every time. Is democracy great or what?

You could not pay the tax and the go to court with the IRS. You would probably lose unless you could convince the IRS court that your are right and the tax is wrong. But I dont think they take cases of "protest". You'd have to have a reason, like it was a legal deduction in "your case". No one is going to get the income tax revoked by going to court. There was an amendment to the constitution so they could collect that tax and there have been court cases where the court declared it legal and proper to collect it.

During the Vietnam war some people tried to refuse to pay their phone bill tax because it was going to support the war. I suppose if ENOUGH people did it, it might work. In most cases the phone company just disconnected your phone, and put the bill up for collection. It might have had SOME impact because a lot of people did it, or at least talked about it.

The fact that you can go to jail for not paying your taxes irks me. I thought debtor's prison was illegal. You can't bankrupt out of taxes either.

    Just have to pay 'em.

OTOH, look at all the government does for me. Provides a safe country. I can go onto National Forest Land and park land and enjoy the open space. Post on the internet. Really, it's pretty good. Could be a lot worse that if for sure.

The state of taxation in the U.S. is proof that you can fool all (or at least most of) the people all of the time.

For example, you are taxed on the money you pay into Social Security...
How much more proof do you need that the majority of the population is sleep-walking, that they can be led to do, think, or believe anything?

We are to blame, all of us. We continue to elect the government we deserve.

The population of America has watched for years the debasement of the very currency we use to conduct all business. Those in a position to profit from this process laugh daily at you.

The process of destroying all that is good about America through uncontrolled, unaccountable spending combined with progressive taxation is quickly reaching full speed...

Don't like the result as of today? Watch.

Oh, so being on the receiving end of a transfer program and liking it is evidence that it "works".

Perhaps I should head downtown and ask some urban entrepreneurs whether they think their free housing, health insurance, bus & train passes, utilities, cell phones, Link cards, and EBT cards "work just fine".

If I'm not back in an hour, just assume I'm in an enlightened discussion about how well my paycheck "works" to buy someone else Flamin Hot Cheetos and new ringtones.

The government requests that you continue to pay taxes. They enforce this request with guns, threats of forced incarceration, and violence. Thank you for your donations.

Back 25 years ago, my college roommate went o. About a guy who found a legal loophole for income taxes but was hushed by the IRS. Today, he still believes it. Lol
