Here in Maine one question on the ballot this year is to tax the "rich" extra if they make over $128,000. The TV ads for this referendum passing say it's a "loophole" they are closing, but in reality it's Maine libs trying to get ya' once you've maxed out on Social Security taxes for the year.
Any other state trying to stick their greedy hands into your pockets this year and do you consider 128K a year as being "rich"??

    Just looked this up...

Question 1 raises taxes by more than $300 million with a new 3.8 percent state payroll tax on families and individuals earning an adjusted gross income above $128,400. The tax will be split equally with 1.9 percent assessed directly on workers and 1.9 assessed on employers. Every dollar generated through this tax will be used to fund a deeply-flawed universal home care program for seniors and people with disabilities, regardless of their income.

Anytime you make employees more expensive for employers, you drive businesses away. I've never heard of a state tax that puts an extra burden on the employer to pay up. That's nuts.

This nonsense simply sucks. This leftist urge to penalize those who are successful is right out of the socialist playbook. This is an excellent way to accelerate the destruction of the nation. Is Soros funding this? My understanding is that the monstrous slimeball Soros is funding something like 80 leftist political action organizations.

I am so sick and tired of the lie the media lets be perpetuated that the wealthy don't pay their fair share. WRONG. Don't know the exact number but the top 5% of IRS filers pay something like 49% of all income taxes and the top 1% pay something like 40%. Isn't that enough? Why the hell should they pay even more when there are huge numbers of people who pay nothing at all and many who get other's tax money as well. And those who pay nothing get the same votes as the payees. Income redistribution has gone too far already, we do not need more of it.

We're comfortable financially and pay plenty to the IRS thieves but I do NOT begrudge those who are wealthy and I don't care if they inherited it, tax was paid on it. Bill Gates doesn't need to pay 50% of his income to help the socialist/Dimbocrap thieves. Don

I heard on the radio today (Limbaugh) that the top 1,049 (most wealthy Americans) pay more annual taxes (income) than the entire lower earning 70% of the population. When you hear the Dems thinking “taxing the wealthy more to pay their ‘fair share’....” feel free to remind then it’s being done already.

I believe that similar proposals are happening in other states.. The terminology and "the cause" may vary, but it boils down to the same thing... FullClip, you are too rich...Especially with all that "under the table" work swapping... Pay up!!!! lol...

... Where the employer matches the employee's tax, like SS? This is the first time I've heard of a state or local tax that the employer pays, outside of that stupid tax Seattle was trying to levy on Amazon, which was shot down.

I have a solution to the "unfair" taxation issue...how about we tax everyone the same, in DOLLARS. No exceptions. Now that's fair.

It’s all a farce...just another way for them to get more control and spend more of working people’s money...

In NoVA 128k for a family is just above the poverty line there...

And the icing on the cake of it all: we just want to tax the rich....sure ok, then why was it when I worked 96hrs in week my paycheck was barely more than my previous weeks 72hrs??? Oh because the govt took 80% of those 24hrs...see the govt has already decided what you need and don’t need

The largest scam of all time was eliminating federal income taxes "on the poor". The Poor get as much if not more benefit from govt programs then anyone. Everyone should have skin in the game. I say leave the rich alone, and tax the poor!

BINGO! I do OK when I work because the average week is 80 hours. Crazy part is I haven't wrked in the state of Maine since 1990...but since it's where I call home I pay taxes here. Sometimes makes me think about moving...but I got too much junk to move now, so I'm stuck. Bad thing is that a lot of people up here think anything over 40 a year makes one a 1%er.

Hey Maine! You can't tax a state into prosperity.

Thought you ought to know that...

I have a guy that reports to me at work. Nice guy, like him, and wish well. He has 4 kids, a boatload of student loans between himself and his wife, and doesn’t see much light at the end of the tunnel. In debt up to his eyeballs.

He looks forward to tax time. Feds typically gift him with about a 10k refund. My guess is he doesn’t even pay in nearly that much. I have a pretty good idea what they make put together, they might be at about 2/3 what me and the wife make.

Tax time for me sucks. Between me and my wife we make about a buck and a quarter before taxes. Not living high off the hog by any means. We both claim zero dependents, so the gov takes a LOT out in taxes...yet when tax time rolls around they want us to pony up another 2500 bucks give or take. I pay a lot of friggin taxes.

Once you break the 6 figure mark look out, they are coming for you fast and hard.

When they say they will only tax the "rich," remember - it all depends on how they define "rich."

Gripe, gripe, gripe. Do you people have any idea how much money it takes for politicians to buy votes, election after election?
