I recently witnessed a 9mm Taurus on its first outing. The barrel accompanied the bullet down range...............:wow: Scared the crap out of the new owner. My dealer is sending it back.............

I don't think I will ever buy a Taurus product after that scene. The barrel seperated right where the threads start on the AFT side of the barrel............:faint:

Yep we have seen that happen here on GlockTalk a couple times. I am not sure a definitive reason for the failure has been provided yet.

Just read this post to my father (retired NJ Dept of Corrections Range Instructor) and he said he has never heard of a Taurus made gun being approved for on or off duty use.

Whe he instructed the accepted list was: Glock, Sig, S&W, Ruger, and Colt.

With the exception of my 24/7 .45 (jam-o-matic), I've never had one problem with any of the 5 Taurus handguns I've owned.

You hear this a LOT from cops. Truth is it just isn't true. In the early '90's, several US police departments issued Taurus .38 revolvers as undercover and chief's weapons. Brazil has used Taurus pistols for ALL of it's police and military weapons for many years. Philippine police carry Taurus PT-99 pistols. One city in Washington State issued the 24/7 in .45acp. That was only the first page of my Google search.

S&W had some similar problems with barrel failures in the '90's IIRC. Taurus customer service better stand up to the plate, though!

    It seems to be...

the revolvers they have trouble with. I had a 24/7 45 that never gave me a minute's trouble, and I have a 24/7 OSS 9mm that is the straightest shooting stock 9mm pistol I have ever fired.

I think Ruger, S&W, and a couple other big name manufacturers have had some bad runs of revolvers too haven't they?
